THE DAILY A Few Thoughts. \ reflective, thinking, enquiring life is really the most exalted existence, Home training has more to do with our manhood and success in life than school training lime never works; it eats and under- mines, and rots, and rusts, and destroys. [t never works. It only gives us an oppor- tunity to work lhe ideas, well as children of our youth often die before us; and our minds represent to us those tombs to which we are approaching, where, though the brass and marble remain, etfaced by time and the imagery moulders away. Pictures drawn im our mind are laid in times refreshed, vanish and disappear. as Think not you are the only one who has to endure, and who dreads the hardships of life. Esse and comfort are the natural desires of the human heart, and there are thorns, real or imaginary, in every one’s pathway. But sitting down and brooding will never bring power to overcome them. Rather be up and doing, thankful for the blessings yet remaining. it is one of the severest tests of friendship to tell your friend of his faults. If you are angry with a man or hate him it is not hard to go to him and stab him with words; but so tolove a manthat you cannot bear to see the stain of sin upon him, and to speak painful truth through loving words, that is friendship. But few have such friends. Our enemies usually teach | at the point of the swouet. The police went to work and put down all the names, mak- ing everybody supremely uncomfortable. Directly they had done so, one of them walked up toa table and poured himself out aglass of champagne. ‘‘What right have you to drink my wine?’ roared the host. ‘‘I supposed, when I was invited,” responded the policeman, ‘‘that refresh- ments were included;’ and, amidst a roar of laughter, he showed his card. A: <> - a - In a paper by Prof. Schwedcff on ‘‘The Origin of Hail,” read before the British Association, evidence was produced — we are not told exactly what—of a hailstone, ‘‘as large as an elephant’ which took three days to melt. (Oddly enough the professor advocated the theory that hailstones are not formed in the atmosphere, but are of ex- terrestrial origin, are indeed, meteors of cosmic origin. Sir W. Thompson treated this hyothesis as a heavy joke, pointing out that a hailstone coming from ex-terrestrial regions with anything like meteoric velocity would perform enough work to develop, in its conflict with the atmosphere, heat enough to melt it several times over. ——Lon- don Spectator. ————__i<—- The Great French Remedy, Dr. LeDuc’s Periodical Pills.
