Shortly after Boyd left Mr. Isnor was called upon by a) second colored man, a Mr. Cribley, who said the ox had been stolen from him. At ten o'clock Saturday moruing Boyd, who gave his aame as Albert Downey, called at McLean's for his money. Word was sent to the police, who arrested Boyd alias Downey, and took him to the police station. When searched $13 was found on his, person. aetatapenttl Dorcuesren PENITENTIARY.— Reports re- ceived from this institution indicate ineffi- ciency somewhere among those entrusted with the confinement of the prisoners at night. A short time ago several prisoners, by some means or other, sprung the locks ot the doors in their cells and got out in the corridors, but their plans of escape were frustrated by one of the guards, who had been attracted by the noise they had made. Recently two other cen ran away from the institution; the atter, it seems, had been outside the enclosure. They were fired on by the guards, the inform- ant says, and one of them, who is believed to be a prisoner from Charlottetown undergoing 4 sentence for murder, was shot in the arm.
