U. An- derson and Secretary Treasurer C. V. Clarke on board arrived im Char- lottetown harbor and anchored oil the Marine Wharf, Thursday night. The doctor and his companion are on one of their periodical cruises in their splendid craft and greatly en- joyed tlie trip through the straits. In the voyage from Halifax tg Pictou they encountered head winds and bad weather and did’ not arrive in Char- lottetown until much later than they had anticipated. The scenery along the coast of the Garden Province particularly impressed the visit- ors. They left Saturday afternoon for Halifax, the cruise extending over a period of two weeks. The Wawa is a yawl rigged craft, staunchly built and specially adapted for cruising. She was _designed by a. Halifax man and built in-'Mahone Bay and is 38 feat in length with over 10 foot beam. Her canvas spread consists of a jlb, mainsail and jumbo and she is equipped with auxiliary power, the engine being a 5 h. p., heavy duty Lathrop gasoline motor, capable of developing 7; knots. This is used on- ly in bad or calm weather or when shifting anchor. Her cabin is commod- ious in the extreme, every oonveni ience feing supplied even to a point of luxury. In apvearance the Wawa is decidedly ship shape” and every ap- pointment teflscts the presence of seamen. On _, I I 2; li - ' i i.. 2°' me additional cause upon which an or- thodox Rusaian may base a plea for divorce from his non-orthodox wife. Namesare not mentioned. but it appears that a couple of years ago an orthodox resident in the Govern- ment of Volhynia, in virtue of the ~“fraedom of religious confession" clause in the Imperial Manifesto of October 30, 1905, recantud his faith, and joined the- Roman Catholic Church. He subsequently married a Polish lady, Recently, repenting his "perversion," he again recanted and was readmitted a member of the State Church. He sought to persuade his wife to become pravoslavni (or- thodox) but she firmly refused. On this ground ha now seeks for a di- vorce, and Bishop Antonius ex of- ficio supports his suit, formally and publicly declaring that the cause as- signed is legitimate and valid. The Woman's Rights League is tak- ing steps to have the case brought befote the Senate, and will also have it laid before the Holy Synod. As, however, divorce procedure in this country, is still partially governed by the ecclesiastical authority, it is not at all, improbable that the H'oly Synod will uphold the action nf Bis- hop Antonius. The State Church dif- ferentiates between the letter rind the spirit of the “freedom of relig- ious confession," promulgated in the Imperial Ukase referred to. It was formerly a. criminal offence for nn orthodox Russian to abandon his faith, and wns punishable by impris- onment or banishment. B. F. KEITH'S THEATRE. BOSTON. One of thc greatest bills of the sea- son, corrnifoserl almost entirely of new acts never before seen in Bos- ton, and including two big novelties, l H Y ' liuif' of the Swiss girls going abroad. In spite of these institutions and notices many 'Swis girls are lurcd, away by tho inteiiational white slave gang, which, like nn octopus, has fcclcrs in every large Swiss town. There are at present many adver- tisements in the Swiss papers for waitresses in Spain at high salaries, but tha Swiss Consuls report that only men. arc employed in Spanish cafes. Another recent example is that. of a well-cducatcd Swiss governcss bcing, trappcd in Egypt, where her "employees gave” her icwelry and dresses, and tiicn presented n large bill with an ultimatum. Thc girl's rc- lations and - friends subscribed the sum and saved hcr from a ' life of shame.
