we get lette'rs .Dear Sir or Whatever You are, This latter may not be the most well written one for a n university student but, I hope it'll be worth the effort and ‘space I'm using in this paper. At least I fell quite assured that it won't be any worse than some things I've seen in the paper lately! If I recall corectly, in one of the first issues of the Cadre you stated fi1at this un- iversity isn't Pafletheticn"itt§ "pathetic". I hope—ybu're inc eluding the newspaper. My op- ‘ inion of the Cadre lately is that it's downright disgust— 'ing. If we want to look at pictt ures of nude girls and readF‘ dirty language, all we have to do is go to a neighborhood stores and buy a magazinq:———-— 'small things excite small minds . I often hear young teenagers swear, smoke, drink, act. for kicks and to"act grown up". But I think that university student should be past that stage.; we're supposedly here for an education. Lately I'm wonder- ' ing what we're supposed to be educated in. As for that girl on the front page of the last Cadre, if that represents university life, I for one have yet to Jseeone girl dressed, or should I say undressed, like that a- round here, and I hope that I don't! Did you ever think a A .person gets sick and tired of hearing what a lot of people (perhaps not you) call filth. hIn your last issue you said that some of those words are quite common in books. Does that make it right to use them? There seems to be a lot of people searching for self-ful- fillment around campus. Sure there's lots of beer parties, dances, and "other amusements" but I wonder if you're find— Jing the answer? It seems that these days everything goes. Don't kid yourself. I know that after writing this letter I'll be considered one of the biggest squares on campus by all you hip character well, I'll tell you, I'd rather be a square than a triangle which is a square with some- thing missing. Perhaps if we stop and find that s ething missing, then the waggd would b be a better place to livs. He's fairly well known and talked about person who goes by? the lane Jesus Christ. He‘s? " "with it" man, after all he‘. loved us so much that he died for we, didn't he? You say such“ words as love and peace, I ask you, do you realll mean it? really Yours truthfully” Debbie Peters Dear Sir, / No longer could I wait to write this letter. My deep ad- miration for the hardworking, dedicated and sportsmanlike as- ses, which this university feel necessitated to employ as coaches of our athletic teams is boundless. Therefore, I feel that it would be a slight on my part, as an active participant in the intercollegiate sports .program, if their fine efforts went unrecognized. These people hava brought great prestige to our noble in- stitution-— by their fine die- plays of tamperment, and by the their_high standardsdin_§cach"‘ ing techniques, which in some cases are reflected by the team team's pugilistic prowess. It is with immeasurable pride that I watch our coaches defend his or her teams, when an official exhibits a hips for lthe opposing team. He or she us uses the greatest restraint by keeping his or her defense down to verbal abuses.:5991"9 this sportsmanlike attitude in the ppach greatgy enhansenggafi“ spirit and is certainly reflect ed in the exhubarance and joy exhibited by team members af- ter a well-earned victory. This "fair—play" attitude adopted by our coaches has brought me to the realization that, at this ‘univeraity, "It's not how you play the game, but if you win or lose". I remain sir, One who is more interested in how the ,game is played, not whether Ton wins or loses. we. Garth Petersen and Mike Duffy, have just ,returned frim the A.A.U.B. (Atlantic Ass. of Univer- sity Broadcasters) Con— ference, which was held at Dalhousie University in Halifax. To our surprise Radio U.P.E.I. is not what we might say the "worst" Radio station in this organization, which includes just about all the universities in the Maritimes but we think that out of ten, we 4 would be rated as 7 or 8 which leaves us a lot of room for expansion. we now find ourselw ves with the "bug" which is that everlasting pow— er, that makes us want to be no° 1. As has been seen over the last few years, Radio U.P.E.I. has the equipment to be one of athe best Radio stations in the Maritimes, but it has alwaysbeen the lack of enthusiasm either on behalf of the management or the staff, which has caused a set back in our reaching ahead. '\paQBeeeaz we feel that now that our transmitting equipment is functioning properly and mow that we have this "bug" to strive forth,_that Radio U.P.E.I° will start its long journey to the No. 1 spot, but that is only possible if we can get more part- icipation from the rest of the student body, thus giving us the choice to eliminate those who will interfere'with the better running of the station as has been happening in the past. ‘In the~past this has not been pos- sible, because of the lack of participation, and because of some sort of partial miss—manage- mant. For those who have been with the Radio sta- tion in the past, we do not want to sound as if you have been wrong and now we are coming along as the saviors, but rather we have learned from your mistakes, and by means of our personal incentive we feel that we are ready to try and take this giant step ahead to make Radio U.P.E.I. a worthwhile enterprise, and investment on your part. This is what most of you seem to forget, V that is, you are all part *owners of the station, and thus without you the the station will stay where it is now that is for a place for a D.J. to go and play records that he wants to lis— ten to,while he should be on the air, for ygg~ and your pleasure. _ So please bear this in mind when we at ‘Radio U.P.E.I. come to you and ask ygg for your support and help, re- member every small_step by you could be a giant step for Radio U.P.E.I;I Thanks Garth Petersen _ Itike IMJff)’ Member of the Canadian Univer- sity Press.-founder and_charter member of the Cadre Press Syndi- _cate.
