A head constable approached the table on which the witness and putting bis hand into a Capac 10Us wallet at his side, drew looking bundle containing weit out a dirty between four and five ounces of dynam- The judge asked whether the dynamite had been deprived of its dangerous qualities. The constabel re- | plied that it bad not; whereupon his | L, rdship directed him to take it away at once. When the examination of the | witness was about to be resumed, attention to a number of | ite. sume ove directed particles resembling fragments of brieks | ly ing on the table wituees’ feet. The Constable in roiling up the dynamite had spilled some of it, | and several persons, on seeing this, | made a hasty move, and something akin toa panic seemed likely to ehellc. His Lordship directed that no one who did not understand how to handle dynamite should attempt to remove the grains off | thetable and ordered the constable to be | sent for, but to leave his pareel outside. The foreman of the jary suggested that the court should adjourn for five mio—| utes, and to this proposalthe judge readily assented. Sub-Inspector Royse then swept offthe particles with his handkerchief on to a sheet of paper and had them’ conveyed out of court, and the trial was resumed. ———_— OO Readable Paragraphs. almost beneath the It seems to be decided that Hanlan is “the noblest Rowman of them all.
