Drama Festival Executive Meeting A meeting of the Drama Festival executive was held on April 9, at the Oharlaottelown Hotel with the president, Mrs. Fred Gates, pre- siding. There was a good attendance and reports of the various com- mittees were given. Miss Estelle Bowness, ooiivener of Junior Drama, stated that all plays will be adjudicated before the end of April, and that all those who have not sent in their entries must do so imiinediately. Miss Fraser reported that en- tries for the Senior Drama Fes- tival were received from the fol- lowing centres: Charlottetown, Tig- nish, Central Bedeque, Indian River, St. Peter's Bay, Emerald, Kelvin Grove and North Tr-yon. Tentative dates were set for the presentation of these plays and it was decided necessary to reserve four nights during the latter part of May for the finals which would be presented in Charlottetown. After much discussion re the pur- chasing of pennants which will be presented this year to all schools particivpating in Junior Drama. it was moved and seconded that Mrs. Prank Ross be authorised to pur- chase one hundred small pen- nants and a sufficient number of large pennants. It was also moved and seconded that the Scholarship Trust Fund be transferred to the P. E. I. Dra- ma. Festival Fund, and that the treasurer and pi8SId0.I10 would be the signing officers for this fund. The following were appointed on the nominating ccmimittee: Mrs Allison Meclvlillan, Falrvleiw; Miss Estelle Bawnem, summeraldc; Mrs. Leslie Ramsay, Indian River; Mrs. W. A. Bruce. Valleyfield: Mr. Ar- thur Vessey. York: Mr. Miller Mac- Fsdyen, Chulottetmvn. all Canadian average is 54. Words of praise stir up new hope and strength and we should be watchful that we meek thus often and lovingly. All our con- versation ought to be constructive. It is a wise old saying that he who gossips with you will also gossip about you. Tnere's no such thing as harmless gossip. If all persons who are given to useless, idle and dlstructive gossip would put, in their spare time reading good literature and thinking good thoughts and forgiving their enemies, the world would soon be- come a better place in which to live. Harmony would be establish- ed and peace, prosperity and pro- grew would make this old troubl- ed world blossom like a rose. . . . so flexible is the English langu- age that new words are being coined at the rate of 200 each year. Public acceptance determine their a-ppeai-ance in new diction- aries. Ihe latest word hatched I have come across is ”Ba.fflegab". Before another year rolls by it will be as common as O.K. It might be of interest to read- ers of this column to know how Mr. Doctor was paid. say one hundred years ago. "For a visit in a village and ordinary medicines, 50 cents. For a visit in the night, 31.00; for advice in ordinary cases, at- office 25 cents." ”Foi' extracting a tooth, 25 cents; if more than one tooth is extract- ed for the same patient, at one sitting, for each additional tooth, 1211, cents. "For obsterics, single birth 84.00; for delivery of twins, 86.00. For excision of tonsils 33.00." Things are different. today, arenlt they? One of the most difficult pro- blems of this generation is worry. some .people seem to set aside special times to worry as they do for meditation. In such cases it. lieoorrias a habit and like all; habits is hard to overcome. It is easy enough to start each day with a resolution not to worry over things trivial and unimport- ant, not to cross one's bridges till we come to them. To live for a, day without worry and bear shut- out gives us the assurance that we can do the same the next day and religious leaders who watch over the material and mirltusl wel- fare of the citizens, It is only when we realise what a human being is. that we can fully appreciate the importance of the teacher, A human being has been created by God to know Him and love Him. Because of that lofty. eternal purpose, God has given man the wonderful faculties of intel- lect and will, the powers by which man seeks for and finds trutih, and adheres to it when he has found it. The task of education is to guide those wonderful human powers of knowledge and love to the fulfill- ment to develop in the child the built-in device which indicates the condition of your anti-freeae solu- tion and shows how cold your car can get before it freezes. The tripl: of Mr. and Mrs. I-larrim n of Lebanon. N. H., won't celebrate their birthdays together because one of the three daughters was born 48 hours after her sisters. John D. Rockefeller, Jr., out- lived the thirteen specialists who waitel upon hr" at different times for a serious stomach disorder Rockefeller d in his 96th year while not one of the thirteen spec- ialists even reached the tihree-score ten mark. Cornell has brought out a new pea sheller. It was developed by Prof. E. W. Foss from a Minnesota model, and is close to 100 per cent efficient. It shells a peek of peas in 30 seconds , and with a larger screen can handle lima beans. A person living on a diet of milk exclusively will soar develop ane- mic. and other disorders, due to a vitamin deficiency. This is con- trary to general belief. iosl and spiritual health of the child, But there comes a time when the teacher must step in for his share in the child's development. Although his role in education is more formal, still it is another means in the Divine plan for the completion of that human person- ality; and it requires the love and patience and skill that character- ize the care of parents. A teacher then, is nothing less than a partner with God in His work of forming a complete hu- man personality. And from this wonderful truth arise the joys of teaching, and the serious obliga- tions of teachers. . a . The greatest of human joys is that of creation, of achievement. of effectively producing a result. And when this result is the development of soul of a pupil, all the disap- pointments and heartaches that are so great a par: of teaching recede in the joy of our suooem. But such a vocation imposes the gravest of obligations. The realiz- ation that the formation of a nu- FACE TRIS? The Monroe twins of Lorne Valley tra- veled the road of life, side by side, for 95 years: the Younker bro- thers of Wlnsloe (twins Georgt and John), were active on neigh- boring farms at 96. 1 I would especially be ll1lEl'C5I.8CIi in hearing from other twins in, this province who have passed the, three-score and ten mark so that I can record them in my column at some future time. i There is only one kind of po- triotism, but a. hundred imitations.
