Charlottetown, from her nephew, Mr. Frcd Foley, now at thc front in France:- No. 2, Canadian Gcncrul Hospital, France, 12, 5, 15. My Dear Aunt Nellie,»-It is now quite late and we have had a busy time since 5 a.m. but I mn anxious to get this letter off to you to-night bc- cause I know my weukncss-procru.s- tlnntion-und goodness only knows when the “Spirit will movc me again." I don’t write often, I know, but often think of you all just the same. One couldn't be on this job and not bo mindful of home, and all the dear ones, believe me. There is hardly a week goes by but I write several letters for the poor follows here to their mothers or sisters in all parts. Wc arc at last in France, and though not up to the front-as indeed I would like to be--yet quite ucar enough to soc some awful sights. Itani- ly if I were to describe some to you, you would in- surprised to think one could stand seeing and even working over such cases. But one gets used to It so that they are prepared for al- most anytlling. _ Our hospital is for 1,000 beds-all in tents-but last wcek wc received instructions to increase our capacity to 1,500, which \ve are now doing. The patients arrive hcrc by f.rnin, right from thc front at all hours of day or night. They come in hundreds, and all hands areon deck once the bugle sounds. The poor fellows-some in simply nn awful state-are carried into a big' long tent where all parti- culars, such as name. number, next of_itin, etc., are taken; from there, then to their wards, wheré they are fed. washed, (should say bathed and in many cases scrubbctl) and put to bed. All their clothing is taken. fum- igated, all linen washed, and in 'a few days they are sent back to Eng- land fairly clean. The evacuating to England is almost as big a job as the receiving-so much red tape. There is no doubt but that-the poor fellows get tho__very heat treatment. Why it would nstonish you, or even a medical man, to see how well this ‘ . ' -.5 L l E H Above prices includes delivery to any station on P. E. Island. EE' _Qdfsani hospital is equipped. Tho patients all get stout, cigarettes, and the real sick even get cI\ickon_ I have had my turn at the patients' cook house as orderly sergeant, watch- ing that everything is just right, and everybody is satisfied-some job, bc- clieve me. The Red Cross people are all vcry good to us, too. We get ull kinds of goods for the patients. Really, to go into our Ited Cross tent is like going into Timothy Eaton's in Toronto. By thc way that reminds me-I saw a box of nice shirts opened there about two weeks ago, and there was a nice little card in it from your Rod Cross at Charlottetown. I had intended writing the president, but you know how good I am at that business. How- ever, they were very nice indeed and I can assure you fully appreciated. We have a 1*. E. I.
