We learn that the ‘‘ Haggis,” a dish peculiar to Scotland is prepared for the occasion, The component parts of this dish are varied, and to some not over inviting, yet Scotland’s bard, in his celebrated address to the ‘‘ Haggis,” welcomes it in the following words— ‘* Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face, Great Uhieftain o’ the puddin’ raee, Aboon them a’ ye tak your place, Parrich, tripe, or thairm ; Weel are ye worthy of a grace As lang’s my arm.’’ A mosr singular accident occurred on board the steamer ‘‘Heather Belle’ on a recent passage to Mount Stewart. One of the pas- sengers, before embarking, became to some extent inebriated, and during the passage his inebriation increased. He ascended a stairs leading from the lower deck of the steamer, and here endeavored .to take a ‘‘ deep—deep draught.” But while the neck of the bottle waz in his mouth and while the ar- dent descended he lost his balance and ‘toppled over and fell to the deck. His hand struck first, bottle-—the neck of which he still clutched between his teeth— next, and body last. As he lay on the deck he presente! a pitiable sight to the numerous assengers who surrounded him. The bottle Svoke at the neck, and the neck passed sucha distance into his throat, that it was with great difficulty extracted. We learn that he was very ill when removed from the boat, and is yet confine: to bed. We call the attention of Builders and Con- tractors to the advertisement of the Charlotte- town Brick Company, in another column. We are assured this company will be able, “owing to their proximity to the Railway and the city, to supply bricks at rates that will make building with this material as cheap as wood. ‘The Company have already all their plant on the ground, and sufficient clay turned up for half a million bricks, which they will will coramence upon immediately after the frost disappears in the spring. We consider this a favorable opportunity for the City Fathers to pass a bye-law such as isin force in other cities of these Provinces, namely, that where woolen houses are burnt, none but brick or stone shall be erected in the place. This would very much lessen the risk from fire, while at the same time time it would en- courage an important industry in our midst, and greatly improve the appearance of our buildings and streets.
