Le vent a commencé a souffler de l'Est, samedi soir et à fait rage jusqu'au | lundi matin. Nombre d'embarca- tions de pêcheurs ont été perdues, et presque tous les agrès de pêche, tel que trappes à homard, trappes à hareng, etc. ont été compléte- ment détraits. à. Il n’est pas possible de calouler les dommages que ces pertes en- traînent. La population des Iles qui est composée de pêcheurs se livre dans cette saison de l’année à la pêche du homard. Chaque pê- cheur posséde depuis cent à cent cinquante trappes ce qui représente une valeur d’euviron cent dollars. Au moyen de ces trappes, chaque pécheur peut, dans les bonnes an- nées, durant les mois de Mai Juin et Juillet, réaliser depuis oent a deux cents dollars. Les trappes ayant été détruites, c’est donc ume perte bien lourde pour la pauvre population des Iles, puisque la pêche ne faisait que commencer ; et avant que les pêcheurs puissent renouveler leurs trappes, le homard aura en partie laissé nos côtes.
