his mental reaction to stock markets

PRESENTATION
_ AT AUBERN
On Saturday evening last a. large-
ly attended farewell reception., was
tendered Mr. J. O. Trainor, and Miss
Trainor, at their old home at Au-
burn. The Rev. D. P. Crokenpre-
sided. The presentation of very ap-
propriate gifts was made by Mr. E.
J. Roche; and Mr. Philip Smith
reed a beautifully worded address.
Regret was expressed at Mr.
Trainers departure, as well as at
the breaking up of the old home.
which had been a social centre for
lo many years. Reference also was
made to the loss sustained by the
choir, by the school. and other dc-
partments of parish and commun-
ity life.
_Mr. Trainor, in thanking the don-
ors for their splendid gifts, and for
their expressions of friendship, said
that. more than anything else, he
appreciated the kindly spirit which
was back oi it all. He believed that
they were going away bearing with
them the good wishes of everyone
in the parish: and he well knew
that all regretted their leaving as
much as they did themselves. He
iaid that lie should ever remem-
oar the friends with whom he had
been so intimately associated in
years gone by; and that it should
still be his greatest pleasure to re-
turn occasionally to the old place-
to the well-remembered haunts, and,
ln this way, renew and strengthen
the happy and peaceful memories of
other days.
Brief complimentary speeches
were made bythe Rev. Dr. Croken,
ldr. William Holland, Mr. John
Gsrlandfand others, expressing per-
lorial regret, and wishing Mr. Train-
or_ much success and happiness in
his new life. A delicious luncheon
served by the ladies of Auburn, con-
cluded a very pleasant and most
eniayable evening.

CONVENTION
The fourth annual District Con-
vention oi the Victoria, Crspaud,
Albany, North Tryon and Carleton
Women‘s Institutes was held in the
Tryon Baptist .I-lail, August 26, 1931.
North Tryon and Albany Institutes
entertained. Delightful weather pre-
vaillng, a large number gathered.
The afternoon session opened
with the' President presiding by
singing "its a good time to get ac-
quainted," and. repeating ‘Une Creed
in unison. Address of welcome to
the visitors was given by Miss Eva
Stevenson, of the North Tryon In-
stitute. and Mrs. Metcalfe of Vic-
toria Institute made a fitting reply.
The President also extended a. cor-
dial welcome to the Carleton Instit-
ute, which has recently been organ-
ized and united with this conven-
tion. The minutes of last year's
convention were read by the Secre-
tary 'and approved. The following
institutes gave very instructive and
helpful reports on the year's work,
which dealt mainly with school im-
provements, program planning for
meetings, and general community
welfare work. Victoria Institute re-
port was given by Mrs. Jabez Lea.

Crapaud Institute, by Mrs. Thomas
Best, number members present, 16.
Albany Institute, by Mrs. Ewen
Cameron, number of members pres-
ent, 10; Carleton, by Mrs. I-larry

The executive for the coming year
was elected as follows: President,
Mrs. W. M. Lea, Victoria; Secretary,
Mrs. Douglas Bell, Carleton. A
Question Box was then conducted
by the Supervisor, Mrs. Tait, which
proved very helpful. Mrs. Tait also
gave s. short address on different
phases of Institute work. A pleas-
ant solo was rendered by Miss Doris
Leiurgey. Mrs. Tait read an inter-
esting paper on meal planning,
which brought the afternoon session
to a close. Between B0 and 90 were
served a sumptuous supper by the
entertaining Institutes in the hall.
Evening Meeting
The evening meeting opened with
1 the President, Mrs. George Mac-
iliay presiding. Seated on the plat-
form wers the five presidents, re-
presenting their respective instit-
utes. The new executive for the en-
suing year, the corresponding sec-
retary, Margaret Callbeck, also Mrs-
W. R.. Bhaw, who brought greetings
from the Dominion Convention.
The program opened with chorus.

siding at the organ. Mrs. W. R.
Shaw, of Cornwall, who was one of
the delegates to attend the Biennial

Boy Scouts and His Excellency’s
Visit
The Earl of Bessborough, the
Governor General of Canada, is also
the Chief Scout for Canada and
'during his official visit to Charlotte-
town and Summerside the Boy
Scouts will take a part in his re-
ception. ,
Needless to say, all boys wish to
take part in the Guard of Honor.
The Provincial Scout Council have
ruled that only scouts in full uni-
stars that they are entitled to wear
and that these are in the correct
position and neatly attached to the
uniform.
A Word to Parents, re Uniforms
For: the benefit of the Boy scouts
all over Canada, Dominion Head-
quarters hss taken great pains to
see that all materials in Scout out-
fit is of the very best material. Par-
ents will also reaiize that while a.
boy is wearing a scout uniform, he
not only looks well, but he is not
wearing out his regular clothes. A
little encouragement to the boy to
save his money for his uniform will
accomplish the desired end.
