After the open- ing hymn, H. Mercer. gave the Christmas story on how the hymn "silent Night" happened to be written after which it was sung by Joan Anderson. Prayer by the leader and the singing of "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" conclud- ed this part. of the programme. During the social hour. a sing song. with Ruth Huestis at the piano was greatly enjoyed. Edwin Toombs gave a most entertaining talk on the origin of many of the Christ- mas customs alter which "Twenty Questions" and other games were played. 8 t -S. -DAIRY FARMERS MEET - A meeting of the dairy farmers of O'Leary district was held in the O'Lcs.t'y community hall Wednes- day afternoon to discuss matters pertaining to the amalgamation of dairies in Prince County. There was a very small attendance. Mr. Arnold Woods, of West Cape, was the chairman. The first speaker was Professor W. J. Reid. pres- ident of the Dunk River Cream- ery, who outlined the plan of the new company and spoke on the dairy industry and stressed the need of more members and share- holders in this locality. This was followed by a discussion. Other speakers were Messrs. Jack Wright, manager of the Dunk River Dairy, Lorne Monkley, manager of Ken- slngton Co-op. Jolinson llomei Anti School Meets -Highlights of the Air Vice Marshal Johnson Home 'and School Club December meeting held at the R. C. A. 17'. School were the decision to join the National and Provincial Federation of Home and school. and n very thought provoking talk by the principal. Murray Shanks. The chairman described s recent meeting held in Charlottetown at which delegates of eighteen home and school clubs from Prince Edward Island were eat. The meeting had been called to set in motion the machinery to form a Provincial Home and school federation in P. E. I.. and subsequently to become affiliated with the National Federation of Home and school. At this meeting. which was held in the auditorium of the Prince of Wales College, Mrs. B. C. silver. national vice- presiclent, and Mr. H. Simpson, president of the Nova Scotia Federation, were guest speakers. The chairman went on to relate some of the interesting statistics revealed by Mrs. silver. over one quarter of a million Canadians are members of the National Federa- tion of Home and School and over seven million parents are members in the U. S. A. At an international conference held recently in Banff, Alberta, nineteen countries were represented. Following the decision to join the provincial and national fed- erations, two delegates, the chair- man, Sq. Wylie. was appointed president at the annual meeting of the W.A. of the Summerside Trin- ity United Church on Thursday evening at the Parsonage. The re- tiring president. M.rs. R.W. Dewar. conducted the routine business. The devotional service was in charge of Group B.. with Mrs. Alan Wcdlock convener. After the singing of "Holy Night". Mrs. Wylie read the Scripture lesson and Mrs. C. D. Matheson onered prayer. The singing of "0 Little Town of Bethlehem" closed this part of the program, aft r which the nominating committe brought in the following slate of officers for the ensuing year: President, Mrs. M. The president gave a. splendid report of the year's activities and the finances were in splendid con- dition. The project for 1952 was the purchasing of furniture for the Parsonage and the members had the pleasure of viewing the result of their endeavors after the meeting. A social hour followed when flhe members exchanged gifts and re- freshments were served by Grotto . S. federation will be formed. After a detailed discussion on the financial aspects of a national and provncial membership, it was decided by the meeting to assess members 50 cents per family for an annual membership. All par- ents will be invited to become members. The primary purpose of the assessment is to provide funds for the procurment of literature and training aids to be used at home and school meetings. In his talk. "Teaching Methods Past and Present." Mr. M. Shanks provided the audience with it most comprehensive word picture of- teaching methods of today com- pared with those of the past. He described the progress in teaching methods in Canada from the be- ginning of the century until the present time, outlining the chang- ing concepts of teaching methods and stressing the problems faced by both teachers and parents. A vote of thanks for the excel- lent talk was tendered by Wing Com. C. Dilworth and was heart- ily endorsed by all present. And Vicinity --His many friends regret to hear of Earl McKennals accident and his having been badly hurt necessitating a "stay" in Prince County Hospital. All hope his re- covery will be soon.
