Mac- donald who sailed from Quebec on Satur- day was Lord Beaconsfield’s treble? When Sir S. L. Tilley and the other Canadian ministers arrived home some time ago in England, the London journal- | { ist came to the conclusion—not uonatur-, ally—That Sir John had accompanied them, according to the original pro- gramme, and reized upon the first oppor- tunity of celebrating the well known and really very striking resemblance between the Dominion Premier and Lord Beacons- field. A London correspondent of the American Register at Paris, read of this in the London papers aud immediately wrote off this‘paragraph following, which duly appeared in the American Registrar, to the great edification no doubt of its readers ‘Sir John Macdonald, the Canadian Prime Minister, is in London. The other afternoon, when he was pointed out to me at the Duchess of Northumberland’s gar- den party—held ia the pouring rain, I may add—I thought 1 was gazing on the Earl of Beaconsfield. The two men are curiously alike.’ This is interesting a3 a good specimen of the sort of work done by a class of cor- respondents largely represented on this side of the water, where they keep the rural press in New York news and gossip of what are known in their jargon as ‘club life’ and the ‘beau monde’ of the metropolis. That careless artistic allusion to the correspondent’s presence at the Duchess’ garden party, ‘ held in the}pour- ing rain, would have gone to the heart of Thackeray.— New York World >_ooe--..-—- Soutadern Women As HovuseKEeEP- grs.—'l'he misfortunes of war, culminat- ing in the loss of servants, has devolved on the daughters in Southern families much of the lmrd work formerly done by the slaves, and they have become more practical women than they could ever uave been if reared with a servant at their command, ready at all times to do their bidding. In all that pertains to the art of housekeeping, from the kitchen to the garret, the girls of to-day are better edu- gated than their mothers were. They have learned to work for themseives, and for the families of which they are mem- bers. (Cultivated in mind and muscle and morals, beautiful io form and feature, modest in speech and apparel, the Souih- ern girls are the peers of any the world can produce. — Charlottesville (Va.) June 24, 1879.—6m CATARRHE. | Constitutional Catarrh Remedy CURES CATARRH. Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Constitutional Ren.edy. T. J. B. Harpine, Esq., Brockville, Ont. :— Dear Str—It is now two years since your ‘‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. I have waited this ong to see if the eure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, te you, as at first the happy efiects seemed to me to be ‘‘too good to true.” I was afflicted in my head for years before I suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in your Circular I saw my case described in many par ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop”’ from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit up in the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle 1 found decided re- lief, aud when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head, A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, cheelache , with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh Remedy and take no other. T. J. B. Harpine, Dominion Agent, Brock- ‘ ville, Ont.
