The procession was a large and picturesque one. ltcaded by the Club's Pipc Hand a dozen strong, followed by the juvenile dancers in National costume. then the (llansmen in their varied tartan, plaids and ltonnets, followed by the president, ‘Mr. J. II. iMla-lcom. accompanied by thc- Lieutenant Governor. Hon Murdock McKinrtou His Worship the Mayor. Mr. R. H. through the city to the Ahegtvcit1l t Major Crosby. Arrived at the grounds the pro- ceedings were opened by the Pre- sident who welcomed the visitors to the sports and called upon the Lleut. Governor to formally open the proceedings. His lI-lonor spoke briefly on the aims and objects of the Caledonia Club and expressed his appreciation of its growth and .its chair-liable work, lilstances of ‘which had come personally to his notice since he became Mayor He also expressed his apprecia- tion of the good work being done by the Club in its encouragement of athletics and in the formation and training of its very excellent Pipe and. The games were then [iroceedeti with there ‘being keer. competition in the various events everyone enjoying the dancing and Pipe playing of which there was plenty to keep everyone en- tertained throughout the after- noon. The sports were hotly contest- sd. especially the dashes, where some very close finishes took place. Ellis. of O'Leary, winning the 100 Yard Dash in easy style in 10 l5 seconds. and looks good for 10 fiat when pressed. ‘ Frank Kilfoy made a very neat. jump in the running high, clearing the bar at 5 feet. 6 inches, against a strong wind. Frank was travell- lnz in ‘champion company. Wm. Ilaipenny getting second place. Phil McDonald was again hack in the running broad jump. after re- covering from an injury some time ago. and won his event at 19 feet 7 inches. At the sports July 1st. Phili broke the Maritime record, stretching the distance to 22 feet 1 inch. Mr. T. S. McKay. who for a nitmber of years past has been a prominent figure in the dacing at the Gathering. again won first honors in the Highland Fling for men. The 440 yard rnn was won by Geo. Walker, J.
