In this case I'm referring to Vince Mulligan who made for the most irrational choice‘of-goaltenders" he could have for the Saint Mary's game. Gerard Smith played the game, his first game of the season may I add. Also Gerard Smith has been sick and only attended four prac— tices in three weeks. He did make a few spec- tacular saves, but even this untrained hockey fan could see he was rusty on a few goals. _Maybe another weeks practice would / have brought Gerard back to form, but the facts are there, he was not up to par. I'm not blaming him but, I am blaming Vince Mulligan for his poor choice.‘ Steve VanDiest play- ed two fine games last weekend and was an obvious choice to start. Also Dave Boyarski has played-well for the *Panthers. ‘HIt is my contention that any employee of the university should use rational thinking when carrying out his or her job. In this case I think Vince Mulligan was . totally irrespOnsible in his choice of goaltenders. Beside» this he alSo went with his favOrites in the third and over- time periods when pos— Isibly fresh troops could have helped the. team. In the future I hope the emotions of a key hockey game don't get to Vince because if they do, he may as well hang up his skates and'\ whistle.
