On Sept. 36th he presented in an'orderiy and concise manner the highlights of his trip to the assembled studen-ts. faculti, and guests in the Assem- bly Hall. 4 Among the highlights of his stay in the East was a tour which took him through most of India, and which enabled him to get a very accurate picture of the life, cul- ture, and problems of the people. Mr. Steele pointed out that the problems most rampant among thrse people are: health, scarcity of food, low wages. and illiteracy. The speaker did not suggest any panacea for their ills. but he did point out solutions which would, at least. partially solve their prob- lems. Other interesting features mentioned included: the diversity of languages and religions found within the country, the causes and results of the partition of India and Pakistan, the variety of people whom he met-both infiucntinls and peasants. His talk was sup- plemented by several films which depicted particularly industry and culture. The native songs, dances, and art proved to be most inter- esting and much different from the Western style. Some of the larger industrial works, however. seemed to reflect the Western touch. From the accurate picture pre- sented to us who heard Mr. Steele. we can feel assured that his watchful eye missed little and that the YO)(l'!P to the Orient will help to broaden not only his outlook on the Eastern way of life but also ours. At the present. time Mr. Steele is engaged in giving lectures outside the campus in different Kane: vice-president, George Mac- Mahon: secy.-treasurer, Patricia McGinn. . . . Many dead fish came to the surface, and among them were great creatures that had perished in the downfall of Table Top. "Before Felice joined us for the treasure hunt he told her no doubt that one quarter of the booty was to be his. Now she's got to hear that it's all his, and she'll want to know what happened to alter the origi- nal arrangement." , "As long as she find! it's all hers, she won't bother much about that, surely." asked Jane.
