The time arrives ! the time to part, To bid a long ‘‘ farewell,” How long ? enquired the aching heart, Alas ! no ours to tell. For years and space must come between, E’er we can meet again ; But Oh ! may thoughts of what hath been, Within thy heart remain. And when, upon the Ocean foam, Or on some foreign strand ; Bright mem’ry wafts thy spirit home Unto thy native land ; Methink thee of those hpppy days, When carelessly we strayed, O’er furrowed land, or golden braes, Whilst ocean’s minstrels played. And when along the sunlit wave The evening shadows creep ; Then let thy heart, though firm an: brave, Compassion us who weep. Thy absence, and God grant that we May meet to part no more ; Beyond earth's troubled, surging sea, On the eternal shore. Till then, our God be with the, love, Thy peace and joy abound ; And guardian angels from above Encompass the around. Sustain thee in the ‘‘ lasting anus’ Vo where the truly blest Enjoy, past all carth’s rude alarms, The only haven of rest. A An Intelligent Horse. THE WONDERFUL INTELLIGENCE COMMON HORSE. OF A In Montreal lately a horse and sleigh was seen proceeding alongSt. Joseph street. There was no driver. The sleigh was laden with a variety of grocery material, neatly made up in paper bags, and ad- dressed in good large handwriting. The horse stopped opposite several doors, and neighing loudly attracted the attention of the inmates, They rushed forth and took their parcels. All of these inmates, knowing the horse and its intelligence, had generally a smali tub of oats or other grain, which being presented to the ani- mal was greatly devoured. At the head of Murray street, and opposite the Gov- ernment morgue, the neatly folded parcels in the sleigh were finished. They had disappeared in the proportion too stretch of roid made. After taking a goed drink of water from a bucket given by the last customer, the horse turned around and quietly and decorously trotted home, avoiding al! collisions, and being care- ful at the various crossings, to slack his pace toa walk. Thisavimal reached his home in the Tannneries safe and without accident. It is the property of Mr. Leon Labreche of that locality. This gentleman has a particular mania for quadrupeds, and after a deal of trouble has taught this animal, which he terms ‘‘Bucephalus,’’ after Alexander the Great's famous horse to drive around the cityalone. The trips are periodically made once a week, and although the pulace follow and gaze, the imperturb- ability of the animal is unchanged. Such intelligence beats by far the com- mon boasted intelligence of mankind. > 2+ <a -+ eo -— Another Resumption. The National Baptist says: ‘‘While the whole United States is resuming, why should we not all resume? Have we notal! debtsand promises floating about disbonored ? Are they not debts to our fellowmen, pecuniary debts? Are there uot debts, perhaps large, perhaps small, that call on us for action? Is there nothing due to the huckster, to the small shop keeper, to the shoemaker, to the laborer? Let us redeem all these debts. Have you church debts, the continued existence of which embarrasses the church and the pastor, and dishonors and cripples religion? Shall not the churches resume ?” Why Will You Allow a cold to advance in your system and thus encourage more serious maladies such as Pneumonia, Hemorrhages and Lung troubles, when an immediate relief can be so readily attained. Boschee’s German Syrup has gained the largest sale in the world for the cure of Coughs, Colds and the ssverest Lung Diseases. It is Dr. Boschee’s famous German prescription, and is pre- pared with the greatest care, and no fear need be entertained in administering it to the youngest child, as per directions. The sale of this medicine is unprecedented. Since first introduced there has been a con- atant increasing demand and without a single report of a failure to do its work in amy case. Nov. 30, 1878—2aw tf fF AP STCUM Theo Greatest Medical Discovery sinee the Creation of Man, or since the Commencement of the Christian Era. There never has been a time when the heal- ing of so many different diseases has Deen caused by outward application as the present. It is an undisputed fact that over half of the entire population of the globe resort to the use ef ordinary plasters. DR. MELYVIN’S CAPSICUM POROUS PLASTERS are acknowledged by all who have used them, to act quicker than any other plaster they ever before tried, and that one of these plasters will do more real service than a hundred of the erdinary kind. All other plasters are slow of action, and reguire to be worn continually to effect a cure; but with these it is entirely dif- ferent: the ‘nstant one is applied the patient will foe) its effect. Physiciansin all ages have thoroughly tested and well know the effect of Capsieum; and it has always been more or less used as a medical agent for an outward application; but it is only of very recent date that its advan- tages in a porous plaster have been discovered. Being, however, convinced of the wonderful eures efiected by Dr. MELVIN’S CAPSICUM Porous PLASTERS, and their superiority over all other plasters, they now actually prescribe them, in their practice, for such diseases as rheumatism, pain in the side and back, and a sueh eases as have required the use of plasters orliniment. After you have tried other plas- ters and liniments, and they have failed, and you want a certain cure, ask your druggist for DR. MELVIN’S CAPSICUM POROUS PLASTER, You can hardly believe your own convictions of its wonderful effects. Ithough powerful and quick in its action, you can rely on its safety for the most delicate person to wear, as it is free from lead and other poisonous material commonly used in the manufacture ef ordin- ary plasters. One trial is a sufficient guarantee of its merits, and one plaster will seli hundredg to your friends. Ask your druggist for Dr. MELVIN’s CAPsI- ©uM Porous PLASTER, and take no other; or, on receipt of 25 cents for one, $1 for five, or $2 for a dozen, they will be mailed, post paid, to any address in the United States or Canadas, MANUFACTURED BY THE NOVELTY PLASTER WORKS Lowell, Mass., U.S. A,, G.
