eign exchange market shnwed a
passing of its recent nervous tone,
with the United States dollar stag-
ing good gains against the leading

sterling snd the Canadian dollar,
however, moved ahead moderately.
Stock trading was in slightly
smaller volume than on Monday,
with turnover on the stock ex-
change at 1,204,860 shares. The
generally softer tone was reflected

pronounced effect on dealings.
Power issues moved to the fore in |
dealings with Montreal Power,
Shawliiigan and others traded fair-
ly heavily but they failed to pro-
duce nnything more than brief
ilurrles and at the close were .show-
ing irregular changes. A slightly
firmer trend in paper stock also
drew some attention but was not
supported by any news of n con-
structive value Liquors were again
stronger with buying predicted on
expectation of increased business
in the Uriitod States.

outside markets. Moni“eal Power
and Canadian Pacific two of the
leaders on the da.y's trading, were
