THE Guardian learns with regret of the
sudden death of Sister St. Georgina, of
the Congregation de Notre Dame, which
occurred at the Mother House, Montreal,
on January 26. Deceased was formerly
Mina Brothers of Vernon River, this
province.
Tia Minto crossed to Picbou yesterday
and the Stanley to Georgetown each in
three and three quarter hours. The
mails left Cape Tormentlne at 8.15 und
reached Traverse at.~i.35. The run in was
slow on account. of the storm and the
special did not reach Charlottetown till
halt’-past eight.
THE mails arriving in Saokvillo on the
afternoon of Monday, Feb. lst., reached
the city on Thursday, The mails reach-
ing Snckville on Tuesday and Wednesday
came to the city _last night. Those of
Tuesday should have reached here on
Thursday evening but were detained on
the other side even longer than usual.

from Inkerman nursery, each list of stock

thousand trees were put, out in the spring
of lilili, thus making them three years old.

two years old, and Mr. Robertson also has

of the directors and policy-holders held
onthe 28th inst. ‘
The statement shows that policies
were issued for the large oi! $5,554,899, ex-
ceeding the general business ol and nie-
vlcus year ln the companys history.‘
(N0 policies were issued during the year
in the monfhly or provident branch, ow-
ing to that branch having been discon-
tinued.) The cash income for the ynar
was 5l,381,8¢3,6tJ, being an addition to
that of the previous year of $110,523.18,
thelargeinerease affording proof of the
stability of the company's business.
The payments on policy-holders' account
amounted to $423,217,256, and it is noted
that notwithstanding, the distribution of
this large sum for dividends, matured
endowments, etc., the net surplus shows
a fine increase, and now amounts to
$550,236.76.
A noteworthy feature of the report is
that, despite the large rediiotions which
have taken place in the market; values oi
even the highest class of securities, the
company still shows a nice surplus in
this respect over book value. This is
conclusive evidence of the skill and con-
servatism which has always characterized
the company in the investment of its
funds, and in keeping its securities at
their cost value.
