The Industrial Association of France has organized a public competition for the production of the best mask-res- pirator for the exclusion of dust. The instrument should fultill the following conditions: (1) Efficiently protect the mouth and the nose of the artisan against the absorption of dust: (2) should not be frail, but must, veverthe- less, be light and handy ; (8) should not be expensive, and should easy to clean and keep in :epair ; (4) should not heat the face. A prize is offered the respirator which best answers these re- quirements. How Moths Multiply, It is now a clearly defined fact that there are three distinct species of wool- destroying moths common to this coun- try. The common species are light brown in color, They begin to appear late in Apriland may occasionally be seen about iate as August. They pair off, and the female then searches for suitable places for the dis position of her eggs, working her way into dark corners, crevices of the walls, cracks in the floor, or deep into the folds of the garments, apparently choosing by instinct the least conspicuous place. The moth lays from eighteen to one hundred and forty eggs at a time. From these eggs hatch, in a period of three to seven days, the white, soft, lar- ve or worms, all of which begin to make acase for themselves from the fragments of the cloth upon which they feed. The case is in the shape of a hui- low roll, The worm reaches its full growth in thirty-six days, and then, crawling into some yet more protected spot, remains torpid during the winter within its case, which by this time is thickened and fas- tened at either end and is the full-sized cocoon. As a matter of fact they eat ‘‘stronger” food than the rich, more bread, meat and simple vege. tables, but their cooking is rude, and they eat the same things the whole year through People who are well to do, or who are better cooks, get more variety with fewer things, and always have some- thing to tempt the appetite. Soup cap be made to resemble greasy dishwater, or it can be made a really savory and nutritious thing, and there are a hundréd different ways of serving potatoes. The physician thinks that free cooking schools would be a first-rate thing in the tenement districts. Medical Journal. A Place of Roses. Have been afflicted with sick headache most all my life. which developed into Dyspepsia of a mild type about twenty years ago, and haa continued to grow worse until during the past seven é or eight years I have not been able to take a drink of cold water or milk, as r they would produce severe pains and sometimes vomiting. I have been subject to severe pains in the chest, with dizziness, which have been more frequent dur- ing the past three or four years. My mouth was furred up in the mornings, accompanied with bad breath. My case was yearly growing worse. During all this long period I have tried many pupular medicines, as well as € prescriptions from the regular medical practitioners, but without producing any improyment. In the fall of ’92 I concluded to try a bottle or two of your medicine and such were its effects that I continued it and aow I can drink cold water or milk withont any inconvenience. Those dizzy pains are all gone and my mouth is as eweetas a baby’s. In short, your medicine has cured me and I am sure that all Dyspeptics can be cured by its use. (Signed) W. H.
