In the morning of life everything is sunshine. and smiles . . . fairies and flowers . . . happy family circles . . . love, wholesome and restrained . . . youth looking out on the morrow, demanding its rights, privileges and pleasures . . . finally the laughter of little children to complete the picture of happiness uncon- fined. '2' '2' '1' '2' '2' ~ How little one knows the day or hour that the cruel hand of Tuberculosis-known in history as one of the world's greatest killers-may rest upon the most lovable and loving of the family, and the round, rosy cheeks of the victim become pallid, eyes listless, frame frail, step uncertain, despondent in spirit, hope- less in outlook. a '2'l'2' '2' '2' '2' Thanks to the remarkable discoveries and developments in medical therapeutics and surgery during the past thirty years, having to do with Tuberculosis, this disease is no longer the killer of history. The scientifically devised sanatorium treatment of the present precludes the hopelessness of the past. The modern X-Ray and fluoroscope enables the specializing tuberculosis doctor to intelligently prescribe and administer treatment, according to the needs of the patient. " , '2' '2' '2' '7' 4' Unfortunately in Prince Edward Island the capacity of the Provincial Sanatorium does not permit admitting one-half of those who ' snould have necessary treatment and sanatoria. care in the‘ insipient stages, when patients could be more quickly restored to health and strength, but are frequently obliged to return to their homes in order to make room for more pressing cases, with the occasional consequence that there is an extension of the disease -- and even worse, the spread to other members of their families. This is an appaling condition that should not be permitted in any civilized land. It is expensive to the country. Human lives are any nation's greatest asset. No people o1‘ government should stand idly by and see this treasure dissipated. It is cruel. It is heartless. It is unpardonable. More Sanatorium Beds Will Save More Lives The present Provincial Sanatorium is crowded beyond all reason. It is criminally inadequate to the needs of even the present. Who-l will be the situation when the casualties of World War Number Two return as they did from World War Number One? The people of Prince Edward Island must be made aware of the situation, and the Women’s Institutes of this province, with the support of the general public old organisations are appealing to our government to remedy the situation without delay. It is of the most extreme urgency that the bed accommo- dation cf theSanatoz-ium be doubled without delay, Our first duty is to give our sick a fighting chance to live. Gould we do less? No gov- ernment can ignore the well-being of its people when the appeal is so urgent, and made unanimous. Every organization, and every man and woman in this province are asked to interest themselves, and place the the weight of their influence back o! this cause. IF You Have Never u... T,,,,.,,,,|,,,, Thank Goal and Give Your Support Don't wait for Tuberculosis to reach your home and family before railing your voice and using your influence. The best way t0 Protect your homo and family against the ravages o! this disease is to see that every diagnosed case has the proper treatment and care- You owe this to your family.
