THE WANT OP HORSES. l During several summers past there has 0 beena deficiency in the supply of teams and carriages for hire during the stress of the tourist season. This has more large_increase of tourist travel. We l have a number ol excellent and wellcon- ducted uve.-y stables in the city, prietors of which are advertisers in THEN GUARDIAN and with whom the travelling public have much satisfaction in dealing. But there are not enough horses and carriages to satisfy the demand, and in some cases, no doubt the teams are consequence overworked. Of course there are difliculties in the Island as they once were. And more~ over, the busy season for the liveries is but a short one. To keep a large number of horses through the year for the sake of the two or three good earning months of the summer would incur the danger of t.heir“eating their heads oil” during the »£all, winter and early spring when the demand is less. Still we hope to ace a considerable reinforcement of the equip- ment during the summer of next year to meet the further increased needs of the tourist season there. _ And just here we venture a suggestion. Why might not one, two or three 'of our.. enterprising stable men each invest in an automobile carriage i Our tourist would be delighted and would 'be liberal- patrons of the modern vehicle. ‘ One such carriage plying at rcgnlarperiods between -Queen Square and the Park might do al thriving business. Another or two plying between the city and the North Shore resorts, or kept for general eicursions in various directions, ought te earn good money. The first cost of one of these vehicles is considerable, but they have the great advantage of costing nothing for their keeping when they are idle. We hope to see the silent,smooth-running and comfortable automobile here next season. . And we believe the experiment will repay the trial. i THE WORKING OF PROHIBITION. There are contradictory reports outside as to the working of the Prohibitory Law in Charlottetown. In the first place the opponents of the la`w lose no opportunity A to represent that the law is a failure and make the most of any violations that occur, or of a man being found drunk. Tourists can obtain intoxicants in any prohibition town more freely than resi~ dents from the fact that their stay is usually brief and hence they are not likely to be called as witnesses in liquor cases. in the past few weeks tourist travel hae been at the flood, and there have been several large excursion parties visiting .vivial tendencies have helped to spread abroad the false report that prohibition L ia a failure. ‘_ It isafalse report.
