MONDAY, w.c.T.u. sores , ILL BECAUSE HE "HAD T0 HAVE A DRINK" Recently s. resident of a. small community in Illinois was driven, by his appetite for liquor, to an untimely death. He had been drink- in a tavern in a town where there was but one tavern. When the tavern owner refused to sell him more liquor, bees/use he had had enough, he became very angry and declared he knew where he ld get more liquor: he "just bed have another drink." Bohe horrowods oarfrome Blend, although he did not have g driver's license, and drove to l. uvern along the road and bought all he wanted. The tracks of his err later showed that he was in the ditch part of the time, when he left this last tavern, and he was off the pavement of the four-lens highway about as much as he was I! it. Speeding down the highway in no condition to drive s oer, he UNI-Shed head-on into n, filling sta- tinn, with the result that he was killed and thr- borrovred car and the filling station were all destroy- cd in the fire that resulted fwm the crash. Why s. supposedly civilized Rortietv permits the advertising and sale nl’ such a commodity. which nlmnst hourly causes similar tragic endings. just for a. few paltry dollars to profit, is hard to under- stand. And yet there are more mverns being built and starting up along our highways ever-y year.... The time has come for action by citizens... Today we desperately nccd clear heads, sound morals, and spiritual perception which all forms of alcohol tend to destroy.- Lcelie E. Gabel, in 1.T.L. News. 1N THE EDITOR'S MAIL Should funds of the W.
