The Assembly then resumed considera- tion of the Gait case. Rev. Dr. Roger Laing made a motion to sustain the previ- ous findings in the matter, and Rev. Dr. Ure moved an amendment that the matter be referred tuacommittee. The amend- ment was lost on a vote of 75 to 90, which means that the previous ruling will be sustained suspending appellants from com- munion in any Presbyterian Church. In the evening a hot debate ensued over the report on temperance, brought in by Rev. Dr. Wright, of Hamilton, recom- mending total prohibition and total sup- pression of the liquor tratlic as being con- trary to the word of God. The debate was continued till eleven o’clock to-night, when the motion was carried. The Currie Case Again. Frepericron, June 18. The Supreme Court gave judgment this morning in ex parte D. D. Currie, dismiss- ing the rule fora certiorari. In this case Mr. Currie’s counsel, L. A. Currey, had ob- tained a rule nisi for certiorari to bring up the proceedings of the Methodist Confer- ence with a view of quashing the same. By its judgment this morning the court was decided that the proceedings of the Confer- ence which tried the Currie case were re- gular. Montreal Synod Meeting. MonrreaL, June 18. The thirteenth annual meeting of the Montreal Synod, under the Presidency of Bishop Bond, opened to-day. There was a large attendance of lay and clerical dele- gates. Dr. Davidson, Q. C., gave notice that he would bring up the Jesuits’ Estates Bill, and read a memorial to this effect. This bill will be sure to evoke a lively dis- cussion, and possibly may be thrown out.
