Dainty re- Xreshments were served during the evening and a most enjoyable time was spent socially. 1'0 SECURE LIBRARY-A mum lng of the Vernon River Women's Institute was held on June 10th at very enjoyable dance on Monday‘ FANCY WORK EXHIBIT The exhibition o! plain and fancy sewing by the pupils o! Rochiord ‘ Square School held the latter part of last. week was exceptionally iirie and demonstrated to parents and this school are taught more than the three "R‘s”. the specimens shown are most cred- itablc. by the little pupils. Grade III work- consisted of sam- latter being worked with outlines cups and saucers, tumblers, etc, showing careful attention to details. Grade IV' exhibited many nicely worked pillow cases with initials showing the numerous methods of stitching and hemming. Pillow cases and laundry bags, the work o! the pupils of grade V, was an exhibit that received much iav- ourable comment. Here the pillow cases were more elaborate and the laundry bags, a real household con- venience were neatly lettered. Neat looking aprons nicely worked were also exhibited by this grade. The work o! grade VI was similar to grade V but more advanced. A sample of work the Sisters took great pride in showing was a neatly worked apron made by Laure Thomas, a little Indian girl with only one arm. The neat stitches were pointed out and the name "Laura" worked across the apron. This grade also exhibited several neat runners. Grade V11 pupils exhibited ad- vanced work in nlghties hand em- broidered with hand made lace. A similar exhibit was made by grade VIII with a nice showing of "run- ners" nicely worked centre pieces and cushions. The beautifully worked Altar lin- used in connection with church serv- showed careful attention to the smallest detail. lllbit was indeed creditable to pupil and teacher alike. the home of Mrs. Callum Bruuce.‘ Ten members and six visitors were‘ present.
