PEMBROKE, March 8-1110: youns people driving to Pembroke from their homes in Alice ‘Township Sun- day night, had their Journey inter- rupted by a pack of wolves, and spent the night at the home of a near-by farmer, rather than risk a further encounter with the animals. Max Hubert, his sister, Miss Eleanor Hubert, and Miss llffis Popp were driving to Pembroke in a cutter about l0 o'clock Sunday night. When about ten or twelve miles from this town their horse. frightened by an object on the road ahead, bolted and over-l turned the cutter. In the darkness they were unable to see what it was that had startled the horse. Max Hubert started to walk down the road, and had taken only a few steps when half a doaen wolves jumped up from where they had been lying and ran down the road. The three young people went to the home of Dan Bisedcw, near by, who came out with a gun and dis- charged several shots, without, how- ever hitting any of the wolves, which ran up and down the road. On ac- count of soft snow in the field and bushes, the only solid footing for the animals was in the middle of the road. and although they made no attempt to attack any one they were in no hurry to leave the vicinity.
