THE UPEI SUN,’Ihursday,Sept.2I,1978,pagfi 8 Dear Students: People need people. Here at UPEI, we stu- dents need one another, perhaps more than we ac— tually realize. We need to share with each other and to express our tho— ‘ughts, our values, and our'beliefs to one ano- ther. ACT VI provided a setting in which this type of sharing was made easier. I found that many of the barriers, in- hibitions, and tension found at the university were somewhat removed and that people more readily communicated with one another. ACT VI was a weekend in whiCh fellow students shared with one another what they believ- ed in and what motivated them as individuals. It was a time to talk to— gether, sing together, have fun together, eat together, laugh together, be quiet together, and pray together. For me, people who were simply a face in' the crowd at UPEI became much more real to me. They be— came people that I could not only smile at, but smile with. The theme stressed at ACT VI was one of unity, motivated by love. Sure, there were differences of op- inion and different be- r liefs - we did not all 'Ihere is no sudden burst of sharing or~ revealing of ourselves. ACT VI,‘ for me s' 1 provided the opportnmPiit’y for im- ‘ portant concerns to be discussed and dealt with. I found the weekend to be a refreshing one - I enjoyed myself! After all, to me, shar— ing is what makes ACT so special. After experiencing some doubt, I finally went ' ahead with my plans to attend ACT V last fall.’ Being a new student from Ontario, to take, every chance to make / friends and to feel more at home in the univer- sity community. This was easy with ACT. Dur— ing that weekend, a' group of thirty or forty people shared in some of the most simple, yet me- aningful ways. We ex- changed ideas and thou— ghts that had earlier been locked inside of us. We played together and sang songs together. We overcame the boundaries of "you" and "me". We became us. Some of my closest—friends are peo- ple that I met during ACT V, and the realiza— tion that we have only to gain from sharing is invaluable to us . I remained involved with ACT for the rest of last year by attending.rem- » ions, and by participa- ting in a number of pro- grams begun by ACT Ors. Because of this special weekend in October, I had learned a lot of new things about people in general, and even about myself, and I had learn- about ways to'us'e the of a sudden agree with ' ledge I had gained._ one another and become totally unified. How- ever, with this common motivation, we could look to the one who re— stores uni'ty - Jesus Christ. ‘ Well, you know and I know that you don't have to go to an ACT weekend before you can share and communicate with others on campus, the people we deal with all day. featuring THE EXCHANGE WELCOMES YOU ‘ .
