The victory gave them the total goal series by a 10-3 margin having won the opening game in New hunswick by a 5-2 score. Last night it was the same old ltonv. Saints threw speed and more speed at their opponents and again it paid off dividends. En- illylng a wide margin in the first period of play saints had to be content with a l-all tie as the, visiting goalie rose to goaltending heights to thwart their efforts ‘v0 add to their lead. They struck in the second canto hr four goals without a return as their attack reached its crescendo and that was the game and series. In the latter half of the third and final session they went out .n search of more goals after being matched check for check in the first ten minutes of the period but ‘this time it was no go as the goalie blocked every attempt as they rodein on top of him at lcast half a dozen times. .But while the Saints were far and sway the better team the visitors also had their chances but couldnt get sway from the dole checking winners. When they did break away McKinnon either robbed them or they were wide of the target. Joe Mahsr. getting into the fray suffering from s recent kn-e injury spearheaded the Saints st- iack with three goals with Houde, another starry performer last night getting one and Elmer Blan- chard the other. From there till past the halfway mark it was a matter of both teams taking turns- at attacking but neither could break through but in the last nine and s half minutes the winners took complete control. They had just finished killing off a penalty to Rodgers when l-Ioude blazed in Cart McDonald's perfect pass. 58 seconds later they were back again, Mahar poking ltfike Hennesseys rebound into the cage to make it 4-1. Still with plenty of kick left the visitors counter- attacked hard only to have a shot hit the goal post after a previous drive had missed by inches. Just by that instance it can be seen how the league has tightened up in the past few weeks. At one time it appeared as i! Ray's would literally walk away with the hon- ors but in their last three games the same Millionaires have lost three in a row and it was only their early lead that enabled them to hang on. And it wasn‘t that the Millionaires were slipping any but rather the fact that the other squads showed vast improvement. o o . In the long run it makes little difference how the final stand- ings turn out.
