Barn, Me., April 20.- Suddenly elevated from the position of pastor ofa small church with a comparatively small pit- tancs yearly to the place of heir to Slim,- Ow is the unusual experience of Rav. Angus M. McDonald of the Oongregm tional Church of Bar Harbor. This for~ [tune was bequeathed him` by the late Mrs. Abbie R. Dodge of Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. McDonald, who was named by Mrs. Dodge as the executor of hor will, is now in Jacksonville settling up the estate. \Vhen he returns to Maine it will be a rich man. The rustic of silken skirts, the iron-fron of laces, the sleek, well-groomed look of the men in his summer congregation, no ,longer can be a source oi regret to him. ‘Hs can take his place and hold his head high among the Smart Setters who found lin his sermons on|Sundays religion enough to carry them through a week of pleasure. Rev. Mr. McDonald is thirty-six years old. He was born cn Prince Eiward ls- land and at the age of eleven years moved to this city with his parents, his father having become foreman in a lumber yard. Graduating from the Bath high school with high honors in 1880, he went to Bowdoin College, from which he was grad- uated in l89U, and three years later was graduated from Andover Seminary. His first pastorats was at tha Union Congrrgatir nal church in Jacksonville. A judge of human nature, and always of agenial and sunny disposition he won many friends. Among them was Mrs. Abbie R. Dodge, a widow. She was one of the prominent members of the church and she watched the progress and develop- ment of the young clergyman and en- couraged him in his labors. When the new minister thought that a new house of worship was needed, he found a firm friend in Mrs. Dodge and she subscribed $1,500. Even then the work of raising the sum was hard, but his pluck and per- severance won out and his reward was one of the handsomest church edifices in Jacksonville. He married Miss Annie McLeod of Boston in 1897 and took her Lo the newly built paraonage with him to live. Mrs. Dodge was one of the first to rreet her and she approved ofthe clergymsrfs mate becoming a frequent caller at the person- age. Upon one occasion she accompaniad them to Bath, when they came on a visit to their pastors father and mother. During the big fire at Jacksonvillsia few years ago, the Union Congregatibnal church was burned. Mrs. Dodge as before, cams to the rescue. After the new church was completed, Mr. Mc- Donald resigned and less than two years ago moved to Bar Harbor to take charge of the fashionable Congregational church.
