city and Consulting Engineer of the
Water and Sewerage Department here
and now resident in Montreal, is en-
gaged professionally in connection
with n large drainage project in Van-
couver, where it is proposed to drain
an area of 90 square miles into the
harbor and English Bay. The work
will occupy several years and is ex-
pected to cost some millions of dol-
lars, the bonds being guaranteed by
the British Columbia Government.
The Vancouver Province gives the lol-
lowing sketch of Mr. Lea and the dif-
ferent engineering works upon which

At the annual convention of the W.

largely attended, Mrs. Sprague, New
Brunswick and P. E. Island president,
_was present and gave a very interest-
ing address on the work being carried
on by the union. She also gave an
account of the business transacted
at the dominion convention of the
W. C. T, U., recently held at Sher-
brooke at which delegates from all
over Canada were in attendance. Mrs.
T. H. Bullock, St. John, also treated
the members to an interesting talk
on the \v0men’s council meeting re-
cently held in Toronto, 'at which she
was in attendance. In telling of the
progress made by this council she
pointed out that an interesting fea-
ture of the convention was the lay-
ing of the corner stone of the new
headquarters which is to be construct-
ed at a cost of $50,000. She describ-
ed the "ceremonial attending this in
an interesting manner and said that
the principal figure was Her Royal
Highness the Duchess of Connaught,
who laid the corner stone.

arrived in port yesterday from Mon-
