We have won to it in safety and in se- curity because of a goodness that has never failed us and a mercy that is everlasting. Another spring has come and passed away with its rich promise and its oy of life. Another summer has gone with its lonll days of gladneas; anothcl autumn with its rnellowlng u: beauty. And now we are at the closing of the year. not ignorant oi the mercy which has guarded us: vTOI‘ it is of the Lord's long suffer- ;ing kindness that we are not con- Jsulncd. and because His com- pnssions fail not. That is one reat office of such days. They bi us halt a moment as we Journey. They interrupt the stealthy lapse of time. like the stone flung into the silent stream. On such a day even the lightest mind cannot but think a little of his past, of all he has won and lost. and done and suffered, since the bells rang in the New Year twelve montlls ago. I Now in thc year lust drawing i0 its closc there is many a season you cannot but remember. There _ are experiences of sunshine and shadow that pass before you in vision as I speak. Some of you have been crushed by deep sor- row. Some of you have been filled with a great joy. There is some llour for you in tllcse twclvc months ihtlt is finely and mdc-l libly enrcglstercd. For others thc year has been marked rather by those slow and silent changes. which. In their movement hardly. realized. leave men so strangely altered in tile end.
