Mary and Lois Ann and Earl Lou. Margaret and Family White generally it is the Chris- tmas season it is also for the Federation of Agriculture a time. of meetings. in fact for this season of the year an unusual number. On Thursday. Dec. 27 at 8 pm. in Montgomery Hall the beef producers and cattlemen of the province will meet to make the final decision on completing the!r organization. Originally It had been plannned to hold this meeting in November. but other pressures for time made this impossible. The III-man commit-l tee appointed last spring has worked since that time and pro- duced for the meeting on July 30 a report which can serve as a blueprint for development of the industry. In order for the beef people to get an organization going good attendance and evidence of in- terest will be required at next ursday's meeting. Long term prospects for beef are good, but they can be bet- for with an organization to do some planning and provide some guidance. FROZEN FOODS MEETING In spite of short notice and hasty planning the meeting held at the Charlottetown Hotel on Tuesday evening was a rather encouraging one. The attend- ance was satisfactory and the 3discussion was carried out on a high level. Those who expect- ed the gathering to be nothing more. than a parade of grievanc- ;es were likely disappointed as there was a fine evidence of willingness to understand, but what was more important evi- ’dence of determination to work i‘towards Improvement. The committee has a job of lsome magnitude on its hands; land. in addition. will be under pressure to make a report as soon as possible. In any event lthe committee appears to have lthe blessing of the public and will ave the support of the Federation of Agriculture in its work. WORKER-MANAGER- CAPITALIST The Canadian Labour Congress publishes each month a bulle- ' “Labour Research." The re- cent edition makes some inter- esting comparisons between the situation of farmers and labour. One section we quote. "The farmer. looking at these com- parisons, will not fail to point out that his situation is really even worse than it colts. For the worker Is only a worker. an employee. doing what he's told. The farmer is a worker plus. He is a worker. working hard. with his own hands and brain. But he is also a manager and an owner - a capitalist. He has .the responstbility of manage- ‘ment. as well as the. work of Labour. He has a considerable investment. not only of his 'time and energy (like the work- er), but of money too. Even if he were getting as much as the industrial worker. which he plainly is not. he would not be getting enough: he ought to get the wages a worker gets for heavy work In urban industry. plus something for his work as manager, plus a reasonable re- turn on his investment." CHRISTMAS Whether or not we believe in Santa Claus we cannot escape believing that the Christmas season does have. a very special effect on the outlook and atti- tude. of many people. Certain- ly there is more friendliness and -’ more thinking of other people. For most of us existence is a ‘ continuous struggle and it is not easy to get our minds off our own problems and be concerned with those of others However. closer approach is made to this .happy condition at this season of the year. and this perhaps justifies or excuses a good many ‘of the things that bother us | about Christmas Probably we shouldn't exa- mine these. questions in detail. but accept Christmas for what we would like it. to be rather than for what it is and with this ‘ thought to extend it ot only to your friends but to those who are "not our friends best wishes for a most enjoyable holiday sea- son.
