It is yet some weeks to Dominion Day but the coming anniversary, means more in the Northwest than here from the fact that this year is with them the llrst year of “u.utonomy," \vhich is to begin on July lst. (\Ve lost our autonomy on the same duy of thc same month thirty-two years ago, but that is another story.) To Re_ gina, the erstwhile capital of all the Tox- ritories proposcs to celebrate thc anniver- sary with great pomp and circumstance. The original plan included a morning parade of all the schools, bearing banners and singing patriotic songs, followed by a procession of floats reprcsentingthetradcs and business of the city and country, then a military review, sports, Indian pony races, and in the evcnlmz a big band concert and fireworks. There was also a joint- religious service proposed to be held in the Skating Rink all to sink their de- nominational differences and unite in worship together. But this had after- wards to be declared “oi1’." A committee was appointed to arrange for the religious service. This commit- toe included members of all religious bod- ices in Regina excepting the Salvation Army. This committee agreed that two addresses should be delivered at there- ligious celebration, one by the Archbis- hop of Rupertfs Land, (Anglican) and the other by the Archbishop of St. Boniface, (Roman Catholic)/l‘here were to beanthems by mixed clloirspriayers from ihe Method' ist, Presbyterian and Baptist pastors, while other miiiisters from Calgary, Okotoka, Red Deer, Prince Albert, Sask- atoon and Mooseinw were to be ranged round in an outer circle to make an impos- ing array of religious dignitaries. It wus on the report of the committee that the trouble began. The Salvation -Army natur- ally did not like being loft out of the pro- gram. Some others thought that the Blshops,Anglican nndtlutholic were made too prominent. Discussion arose which was of a dividing rather than of u. uniting character-and continued till midnight.
