Bell of summeraide, who recently returned to her home: Mn. Bell who went tocalifornia in company \\llh Mr. and Mrs Silas MacFarlane, had planned when she left to return via San Francisco, Seattle. Victoria and other Canadian cities, but for reasons of health, on the advice of her doctor in California and her nephew Dr. J. Ralph Calder, of the Henry Ford Hospital, Dc- troit. she was regrettably unable to return by the Canadian West route. Returning by Detroit, she was the guest. in that city oi Dr and Mrs. Calder, and had the ad- vire of some of the best doctors on the stall of the Henry Ford Hospital. Mrs. Bell states that the weather during their first few weeks in Cniitoinia \\ as rather cool, and more like the rainy season of March and April, but both she and the M:icFarlane's enjoyed many weeks of delightfully sunny weath- er. While there they stayed at a delightful spot in El1Cll’l0' outside of Los Angeios, Just five miles from Van Nuys. wlicre Mrs. Bells cou- sin, Mr. Rolniid Tliplin and Mrs Tuplin reside. Learrl Miss Louise Callbeck. guest speaker, gave a most. interesting and enlightening address on the verse “Speak unto the children of Israel that they go forward," and a talk on the life of Kawagwa. an outstanding Christian leader in Japan. Miss Callbeck also read excerpts from a ‘letter rcccivc-cl from a friend missionary. who visited Japan in 1953 and was warmly welcomed. She was great ly encouraged with the results 'eri everyone for the honor which during the past few years. Miss Callback rcpcaied The Lord's Prayer in Japanese as well as} singing their National Anthem. A‘ vocal solo "Near to the heart of God" was rendered by Miss Ruth Simmons. The following were ap- pointed as delegates to attend the P.E.l. Baptist Association which meets in Tryon in June. A social committee comprising Mrs. Ro- bert Palmer, Mrs. Arthur Dunn and Mrs. A. W. Leard was Ip- pointed. The closing hymn "In Christ there is no cast. nor wt-iii" was followed by the benediction. Re- freshments were served by the members of the local W.M.s. The couple were pre- sented with many beautiful gifts, following which Mr. Moase, on be- half of his wife and liimselt thank- hnd been bestowed upon them.
