Montague was held Tuesday even- ing. October 14th at the home of Mrs, A. 12'. Campbell. The president. Mrs. E. N. Young, presided, and opened the meeting with the Call to Worship. Psalm 105: 1-5, fol- lowed by prayer. The Psalm "Unto The Hills" was sung. and the Scripture, Psalm 11- 100, was read in unison. A season of prayer and the Lord's Prayer in unison. followed by the hymn "For The Beauty Of The Earth", closed the devotional part of the meeting. The study period. based on the final chapter of the study book "Meet The South Americans" was conducted by Mrs. Byron Stewart. Mrs. William McKenna. voluntered to conduct the study period at the next meeting. The word for roll call was "har- vest" and there were 14 members and three visitors .present. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. James Currie. and approved as read. A large number of visits to sick and shut ins were reported. Mrs. William McKenna. and Mrs. James Curriewere appointed on the Vis- iting committee for the nextmonth Plans were discussed for having the fall thsnkoffering service on October 26th. At the close of the W. M. 5. meeting a business meeting of the Ladies Aid Society was held and was conducted by the president. Mrs. Byron Stewart. Roll call was answered by fouriccn members. The minutes of the DT6Vl0l15 meetlmz were read by the secretary, Mrs. William MacEachern and approved as read. The financial report was read by the ircasurer, Mrs. A.C. Machoy. Mrs. MacKay also report- ed on the success of the annual fall supper which was held in the new church hall on 0ctober'ist. On motion it was deided to buy a lamp and a fall for the pulpit and Mrs. MacKay and Mrs. Campbell wcrc appointed to attend to this purchase. A substantial sum was voted towards the building fund. A letter of appreciation from Rev. Carl Currie. Murray Harbour North, was read by Mrs. A. D. Mac- Lure. At the close of the meeting a delicious lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. W. R. Garrick and Mrs. Macxay. MONTAGUE W. I. 'The October meeting of the Montague Women's Instituin was held at the home of Mrs. Stcwartv Nelson, Tuesday evening, October 14th and was conducted by the president, Mrs. A. D. Maclourc. There were 20 members and five visitors present. The meeting opened with tho 'Instltuie Ode," followed by roll call and the minutes of the last meeting. In the absence of Mrs. Cecil Beck, the financial report was read by the secretary, Mrs. Nelson. The correspondence was read and discussed. The sick committee reported having made several calls. and Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. J. C. Mar.l..ure were reappointed to the committee for another month. Mrs. Frank Dewar reported that she had interviewed Mrs. Mae Lea Manning, regarding sewing classes in the school. It was decided to leave this matter in the hands of a committee who would arrange s. meeting with the teachers. Mrs. .i. C. MaoLure and Mrs. Lorne Wig- ginton were appointed on the com- mittee. A sum of money was voted to pay for a set of science text books for use in the school. The sum of twenty five dollars was vot- ed towards iheiooalcampnign con- ducted by the Canadian Legion. Montague branch. The Red Cross convener, Mrs. William MacLean, reported that a large number of knitted squares were on hand. and it was decided to have those squares sewn togeth- er and the work forwarded to some worthy organization. Mrs. Arnold Van fderstlne, Mrs. Harold Landry, and Mrs. Lyle Boehncr were appointed on the nominating committee to present a slate of officers for the anual meeting in November. As there was no further business the meeting adjourned and the members and guests enjoyed a soc- ial hour. A contest, presented by Mrs. Frank Dewar, was won by Mrs. Lorne Wigglnton. Two or three, perhaps more beavers have been at work lately and their work is really remarkable. They have a dam made and water covers an area of quite a few acres. Friends of Master Stewart Han- sen are sorry to hear that while engaged in a ball game during the noon hour recess at school, he had the misfortune of breaking the main bone and a small bone above his ankle. At the King's County Memorial Hospital in Montague, where he spent several days, a. cast was put on and he returned to his home in George- touin on Saturday, October 18th. Stewart is a valued member. of the Georgetown Boy scout hockey -team, Provincial champions. and if his injury results in his absence from the team this sealan, his loss will be greatly felt.
