It is by this course that Messrs, Tuckett & Son have secured the great success ot their “‘Myrtle Navy” tobacco, This con- fidence is not only a source of business to the firm, but also a source of economy which the consumers get the benefit cf. The merchant never loses a moment of time in examining the quality of the tobacco. The name fixes the quality as absolutely as the mint stamp fixes the value of the guinea. It is not even necessary for the commercial traveller's trunk to be burdened with a sample of ‘Myrtle Navy.” All kis customers know what it is, and know in an instant when it has been supplied. There isno room for any dispute ahout it. No waste of time or postage in writing complaints about it. These msy look look like trifles to the uninitiated, but they save money, and enable merchants to perform the work of distribution at the amallest possible cost. They are ms of the reasons why the finest quality of tobacco grown can be sold at so chesp a price. ae Now is the time to get butter crocks, cream ecrocks, preserve crocks, milk basins, bean pots. The coal combiastion in the United States is squeezing the fat out of the con- sumer without mercy. Since January last the price of stove coal has been advanced $1.05, and of chestnut coal $1.30 per ton, and this without any increase in the cost of production for of transportation. The lever has been worked simply by a combin- ation of the companies controlling the Pen- sylvania fields, and it seems doubtful that any effective remedy can be applied. The great St. Peter's Cathedral, Mon- treal, is rapidly approaching completion. It is probable, from present appearances, that the first Mass will be celebrated there about the 15th of next November. The interior of the massive edifice already pre- sents an impressive appearance. The height of the cupola is 200 feet and the diameter 80 feet, while the interior length uf the whole edifice is 320 feet. The vault and cornices are of white pine gilded and painted in white, and the interior walls are of fire proof cement. The paintings of the principle cupola represent the four evan- gelists with their respective emblems, the eagle for St. John, the winged man for St. Matthew, the winged lion for St. Mark, and the winged ox for St. Luke. In addi- tion to the angels designed above the evangelists, there are also com- pleted at the base of the cupola repre- sentations of the keys of St. Peter, the arms of Pope Leo XIIL, the arms of Bishop Bourget and the arms of Arcbishop Fabre. The paintings in the vault of the apsis represent in the centre the collection or gift of the keys to St, Peter, at the right the miraculous fishing and at the left Christ meeting St. Peter leaving Rome. This massive structure has already cost about half a million dollars, and before it is completed, which is expected in 1895, will probably have exceeded the million. Crisp and Casual.
