ISLAND BLO WN UP AT HAVANA
Havana, Ill: March 20.- The ioating
island of about two acres area that
struck the second tier of tho bridge here
was found to be made up of refuse
from the Peoria stock yards and dis-
tilleries. It was from four to Six feet
thick, and is|estimated to have contained
25,000 loads of rubbish. It was frozen
solidly enough to bear the weight of a
train of cars. The city authorities
employed a_foi'ce on Friday and had- the
mass blown up with dynamite. The is-
land floated until it came in contact
with the narrow gauge bridge, a quarter
of a mile below the city, where a high
wind again dislodged it and it once
more took its course down the river.
