UPEI STUDENT UNION NEWSLETTER SU President’s Message - Well hello there. The countdown for graduation is on and my time at the Union is quickly running out. With the realiza- tion that we only have about 3 months left to reach our goals for the year, we've kicked into high gear and every- one is running around like madmen trying to get everything in order. Our first major campaign for this semester will take place on February 6th. It is the National Day of Action against high tuition fees. Students across the country are devis- ing innovative ways to grab the atten- tion of the media to gain public sup- port for the need to invest in Post- Secondary Education. Here at UPEI our plans temporarily consist of a tent- out overnight (in the freezing cold to get a tuition freeze), as well as a flat bed truck with a popular Island band playing tunes to lead us down to Province House. Keep your eyes and , ears open for that gig. Aside from planning cam- paigns, we have been busy restructur- ing Council and Executive to help make the move to the New Student Centre a smooth one. Speaking of the New Student Centre, we are also quite busy putting the finishing touches on the new bar. Saying goodbye to this ole' barn will be hard to do (ha ha ha) but trust me, next year you certainly won't be sorry. In addition to all of that, we are developing programs to help create more student jobs on cam- pus. ; Some other fun stuff to look forward to is Winter Carnival (which is coming up real soon and is going to be a rocking good time), and of course the year end activities which will be your last chance to party in this barn. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming months. These ones are always the hardest, but hopefully with a little hard work and determination we'll make it through. : -Cynthia Dennis Student Council Meeting Dates February 10 March 3, 17 April 7 All meetings are held at 7 p.m. in Kelley Building, Room 210. 2002 Yearbook Deadlines Please ensure that your gradu- ation photo is submitted to the Yearbook no later than March 28, 2002.
