THE Toronto Starsays: Rev.Mr.Weeks,a Baptist clergyman of this cit.y,h;.s refused a five times larger salary, and the Jarvis street Baptist church has just handed Over $850 Blliltlal taxes. These le people Wll0 DP9-Ciilre What they preach. Tin: trustees and people of Ciledonia wish to publicly thank the kind friends of the neighboring congregations for their liberal pecuniary help on the day of rf- opening the church. The day, the first fl Sabbath of November, was exceedinglyi ne, and a very large congregationl assembled; there was no standing room for the vast crowd that gathered, a great many having to stand outside. They came from Montague, Valleyfield, Orwell, Murray Harbor North and South, Little Sands and \Voodville. The pastors of very considerately and friendly, had'no services in their own churches, in order that their people woull go and help by their contributions the congregation of Caledonia. Rev. J. C. Martin, who is home on furlough from his mission field in Turkey, began the services of the day' at ll a. ru., and preached in English from 1 Rev. 3 v 17. He very pathetlcally laid be- fore the congregation that they should not rest satisiied with enlarging and beautifying their own place of worship, without sending the Gospel to the heathen who live and die in ignorance of God`slove in sending His Son to die for sinners. hir. Martiu’s address was very impressive. Thereafter Rev. J. Sutherland, the pastor of the congregation, gave outin Gaelic the 132nd Psalm and the congregation joined heartily in singing ver. 7,8,9,14, 15 and 160. He' then read King Solomon`s prayer at the dedication of the temple, 2 Chron., chapter 6, offered a solemn dedicatory prayer in which he thanked God that no accident happened to any of the workmen and others while the work was going on. After the prayer he made a few appropriate remarks from the 41st verse of 1 the chapter. Rev. Ewen Gillies then people’s attention to the safe guidance and strong protectionwliich God’s people have in having Him as their sun and hield ,and finally crowning them with |01-y_ A'¢‘,3qj;`m,i1{ev. ,J.;Gillis preached in English fronrythe 17th verse ot_ the same Psalm, from which he described the believer`s pilgrimage in its . varied vicissltudes through life till he reached the New Jerusalem above. After Mr. Gillies finished" Rev.A.S. Stewart preached in Gaelic from Heb. 12:23, remarking that we the dispensation under which the New .’ Testament church lives is to be the last dispensation of the grace of God; that the New Testament church is built upon the foundation of the Apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. At6p.m. lkev. Mr. Martin gave a very interesting address on missions, referring chiefly to his own sphere of labour in urkey among the Moslems, the adherents o the creed of Mahomet, who taught his llowers that religion consisted in an ntire resignation to the will of God-a nbjective kind of religion. All the ervices were very impressive and edifying. and intended to deepen the spiritual life among the hearers. There we 10 feet of addition put to the church, with an end gallery, and a beautiful spire with the thistle on the top. The whole of the interior with the pews is painted, giving a fresh look to the body of the biilding. Mr. Nicholson, Orwell Cove, was the contractor of the work and finished it to the entire satisfaction of the trustees. The collection was upwards of $94, very liberal indeed for the occasion. mr/.ma-1-ri-5 Try one can ot, Uak brand Condensed Milk and youwill decide whether it is hetter and cheaper than a cow. But a Poor Medicine. Common soda is all right in its place ndespensible in the kitchen and for cooking and washing purposes, but soda was never intended for medicine and people who use it as such will some day regret it. - \, y , The common use of soda to relieve heart-burn andsour stomach is a habit which thousands of people practiced almost daily. and bne which is fraught with danger, soda gives only temporary relief and in the end the stomach trouble gets worse and worse. The soda acts as a mechanical irritant to the walls of the stomach and bowels and cases are on record where it accumu- lates in the intestines, causing death inflammation or peritonitis. Dr. Harlandson recommends as the safest and surest cure for sour stomach acid Dyspepsia) the daily use after meals of an excellent preparation, sold by .druggists under the name of Stuart/s Dyspepsia. Tablets. These tablets are large 20grain lozenges, pleasant to the taste and containing natural peptones and digestive elements necessary to good digestion and which all weak stomachs lack. 0 Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets used regu- arly after meals digest the food promptly and thoroughly before it has time to ferment, sour and poison the blood and nervous system. Dr. Wuerth states that he invaribly uses and iecommends Stuartfs Dyspepsia Tablets in all forms of stomach derange- ment and finds them a certain cure, not only for sour stomach, but by causing prompt digestion of the food they create healthy appetite, increase flesh, and strerigtlien* the action of -the- lieait and S- liver. _ s They are not a cathartic and contain no voileut drug but are intended only for stomach diseases and faulty digestion, and generally acknowledged to be the most reliable cure for any stomach trouble except cancer of the stomach. Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets now enjoy an international reputation and popularity ‘and are sold by druggists everywhere in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
