The 40-year-old City resident appeared in court on a drunk and incapable charge on . Tuesday morning and was given a 20 day sentence with a two-hour hold clause in order that he could ge‘ out of the City. The accused, however, failed to take the opportunity-and was tak- en\ in by city police again during the afternoon. A 38-year-old Dorchcster Street 1 man, was given a 20-day sentence when he appeared before Magis- trate K.M. Martin in City Police Court this morning. The accused was arrested by City Police on the complaint of I ’ his father. The above two charges of drunk and incapable were part of the " docket of five such charges to appear in court yesterday. A Moncton man, was given one hour to get out of the City or he would be sent to Queens County Jail for a 20-day period. It was ‘noted in court that the accused had just finished a 30-day sen- tence. Like the previous two cases he appeared on a drunk and in- capable charge. Others appearing on similar !charges were a 48-year-old resi- dent of Roseberry, P.E.I., who was ordered to pay $20 and costs or 10 days and a 40-year-old of no fixed address. MacKenzie, highly re- in garded dentist of this city, died while his fishing companion Hugh (Tuddy) MacKinnon of the Charlottetown Police force was hurrying him to a doctor in Souris. Upon arrival at Dr. Kas- sner’s office, it was found that probably twenty minutes before the arrival of the car in Souris. Dr. MacKenzie and his com- panion had left Charlottetown about six o’clock on Tuesday evening and they’ were preparing breakfast at Tuddy MacKinnon’s cabin at North Lake, -about 3.20 a. m. when “the Doctgr’s sudden attack occurred. Mr. MacKinnon realized at once that the-attack was a ser- ious one and insisted that the fishing trip be abandoned Dr. MacKenzie objected, and for a brief period he did recover, walked around, and said he felt much better. However, a second ,attack followed and then a ‘third, and the Doctor was per- suaded to leave for Souris. A man without pretensions, znodest, competent in his pro- fession, he was “Gus" to his many friends. His friendships were the sort that mellowed and -became stronger with the years. lHe had the faculty of mingling seasily and pleasingly with all -W995 Of people. He was respect- .ed by his fellow dentists and his simplicity -and unassuming way earned commendation and lik- mg. Dr. MacKenzie had three 'h1ef interests, his family, his "riends and his ardent love of ‘shing and hunting. Tohis fam- ly he gave his devotion, to his riends, fellowship and a gener- fzus undersstanding, and to his avored recreation of fishing and booting, any spare time that us professional duties would allow. He had a long and honourable military record with the Cana- dian Army in the second world war. He left this Province to join the Canadian Dental Corp in the Spring of 1940. He served in England, Italy, France, Hol- land and Belguim. He made the long trip from Italy by way of southern France to the battle- fields of northwest Europe. He was discharged in August 1946, with the rank of Captain. Dr. Loyola Duffy. a fellow dentist of this city, spoke of his military record and of his later career in high terms, when he learned of his death. He described the l-ate Dr. MacKenzie as a fine character with no enemies, highly regarded‘in his profes- sion, with a most likeable per- sonality.
