Dally-— , HASZARD & MOORE ; | the pursuit of policy THE DAILY EXAMINER, CHARLOTTETOWN, JANUARY 27, 1899, ‘LIBERAL CONSERVA- TIVE CONFERENCE. Resolutions Passed, ee OFFICERS AND APPOINTED. The conferen afternoon and evening at the Lyceum, the Masonic T: my le been proved to be too small. Stirring addresses were delivered by Hon. D. Gordon, Mezsrs Cyrus Shaw, Alexander Martin, A. C. McDonald and others. Aftera general , the following the committee, >» was coptinuec yesterday the hall in having liscussion, the resolutions, reported by were adopt 53 28 TO PROVINCIAL AFFAIRS. The Conference of the Libera! Conserva- tive party, today assem bleu, dey lores the this Pro- steadily financial crisis impending over and view: alarm the but rapidly increasing public debt. In the name of vince, with the people, we denounce, in the strongest terms, the deceit and cor~ ruptioa by which the present adwiuistra- tion obtained a continuance of power at the last election, and the unscrupulous waste and extravagance which it has since prac- tised in every branch of the public service. We unreservedly condemn the annually recurring deficits, and in order to arrest the alarming increase of the Provincia! éebt wedemand the most rigid economy inexpenditure and the strictest honesty in administration. This Conference firmly pledges itself to Which shall pata stop to the vicious practice of pillog upa public debt, and to that end wecall upon all electors, irrespective of party, to join in an effort to secure forthe people ar. honest and economical administration of public affairs. We heartily approve andcommend the able, patriotic aod manly course pursued by the Hon. Daniel Gordon and his sopportersia the Legislature in exposing and denouncing, in the interests of the country, the reckless and unscrupulous management of our affairs. AS TO FEDERAL MATTERS. 1. That this Conference places on re- cord its strong condemnation of the double dealing wrereby the Laurier administra- tion gained power at the late elections, as well as their open violation, at even this early period of their administration, of the most solemn pre-election promises nrade by their party candidates. | 2. That this Conference strongly con- demne the terrorizing of officials, inspired by the numerous dismissals of efficient officers for political reasons, and also, the system of espionage introduced by the appointment of so-called | commission to ferret out charges against public servants with the ill-concealed pur- pose of obtaining places as rewards for} violent partisans of the administration. — 8. That ‘this conference expresses its high appreciation of the eminent services rendered by Sir Charles Tupper, Barovet, as leader of the Liberal Conservative party during the late election, and as leaierof the’present Opposition in the House of | Commons, as well as the beneficial eff-cts of his labors in behalf of the people of Canada as High Commissioner and former Minister of the Crown. 4. That in the opinion of this conference the early construction of the Selfast and Murray Harbor Railway is of paramount importance to the Province, and is highly necessary for the development of that large section of country south of the Hillsborough River, and we firmly believe that the just claims of Prince Edward Island for public works should not be bartered away for an increase in the Provincial subsidies in whieb other Provinces would participate, or for any other equivalent, but should be devoted to Railway €x- tension in this Province as outlined in the policy announced by _ the late Government led by Sir Charles Tup- per, whereby the sum of $250,600 was to be applied during the then current fiscal year towards the construction of the Belfast and Elmira branches, and the construction of branch lives to West Capee, Richmond Bay, New London, Crapaud and Rustico were to be proceeded with during the present Parliamentary term. 5. That this conference condemns the extravagaat administration of public affairs and the enormous inereases of debt and taxation by the Laurier Administration. — 6. That this Conference condemns and denounces in the strongest terme, the core NOTICE! DEBTORS. As we have transfered our busi- ness to other parties our books must be Closed up at once ORGANIZERS lows: rupt use of money and liquor for the par- pose of influencing a lorate, #@nd bope that no candidate or agentofthe Liberal Conservative party will follow the pernicious example of our Opponents in this regard, portiou of ithe elec- OFFICERS AND CON\ ENORS, +T; . a ‘ Utivers of the Conference and Conven~ ‘ , » Pp ‘ | orsof the Party were then elected 48 fol« PRESIDENT —Hon.
