Fredericton, informed the membersl”, that the National office is awaiting the Report on Special Committee on Program Evaluation and Planning before suggesting any general change in National Policy. This National Committee chaired by Miss Flor- ence Christie of Montreal (former- ly of saint John, N. B.) is at- tempting to reassess the aims and functions of the Associa ion. Miss Morrissy announced that Miss Joy Maines of Ottawa, Na- llollhl Executlvrsecretary will be in the Maritimes in June when she will meet with the members of the Association attending the Maritime Conference on social Work being held from June 20-24 at Halifax. Attorney-General on his an- nouncement of proposed legislation mncerning the developmnet of a Central Prison Farm for New Brunswick. Mrs. Lewis Miller 1Frederictom a new member of the N. B. - P. E. She is a graduate of the Maritime School of Social work, Halifax, and recently return- ed from Scotland where she at- tended the University of Edin- hii.gli. According to Mrs. Miller 'hi- National Assistance Act and National Health Act form the legislative structure of Britain's social Services. Although this is a contributory system every person ill need in Britain is eligible to sizbsistance Maintenance which is made available to the recipient in cash. Non-contributory pensions are also paid to persbns who had no opportunity to contribute prior io the National Assistance Act of ill-18. Mrs. Miller praised the health scheme and the work of private Soczril Agencies in meeting finan- .-inl need. January Zlst.. 1955 from the MacLean Funeral Home. The late Mrs. Warwick-Kelvey was born Elsa Duncan in Stockholm, Sweden. on October 24th.. 1877 and passed away at Beach Grove Inn on January 19th. The funeral ser- vice at the MacLean Funeral Home was conducted by Rev. Canon J. . Ibbott and at the Church of England Cemetery in Souris by Canon lbbott and Rev. D. A. Sharpe. Mrs. Warwick Kelvey. whose husband .predeceased her several years ago. had no rela- tives in this country. Myers was a visitor among relatives and friends at Moncton during the past week. Mr. Myers relates the drastic loss of a farmer who is the owner of a not far distant island to which he transports his large herd of cattle, by scows. to pasture there during the summer months. and returns hem to the mainland by driving them across the ice, when the ice is sufficiently strong to carry the large herd. Tollowing the frost, previous to that of January 21. the cattle started across the precarious- ly frozen waters of their own ac- cord, resulting in the drowning of 30 of their number. before the rest of the herd could be rounded up and returned to the island.
