Dr. Cramp, for many years president of Acadia college, was a most industrious collector of books, and possessed at the time of his death one of the largest private libraries in the Dom~ inion. All new books of any note were obtained by him as soon as published, but his collection was especially rich in liter- ature, all of the fathers being represented with huge tomes on the old councils. \Vith few exeptions these books have been kept as they were left at Dr. Cramp’s death, but now his heirs have decided to turn them all over to the college. They will be a valuable addition to the library. -Halifax Herald. THE tire department had a iight yester- day morning against a blaze that for a. time promised to be a most disastrous one, and even as it was the tire practically des- troyed the building in which it originated. It started in a building in_the rear of Mr. G. F. Hutcheson's confectionery store, part of which is used by Mr. \Voolner as a stable and the remainder was used for the storing of a large number of barrels by Mr. Hutcheson. Thefire originated in the hay loft in which was stored about two tons of hay and whenf__the tiremen arrived they found the fire well seated. Fi\e streams of water played on the building for some time before the tire was extin- guished. The building is owned by Hon. B. Rogers and was not insured. Mr. Hutcheson’s loss is $50. Mr. \Voolner two ton of hay. A BUCTOUCHE correspondent writes: The Rev. Father Banon, pastor of St. Aloysius church, who has for the last two months been travelling throughout Eu-, rope, a.rrived_home on Saturday evening, the 7th inst. He was welcomed at the depot by a large number of his congrega- tion, rejoicing to see again him who is held in such general esteem amongst them. Father Banon's health has been greatly improved by his sojourn in the warmer climes of the continent. On Sunday he treated the congregation with a short but graphic account of what most interested him while away and particularly of his travels through Italy, France and Ireland. While in Rome he enjoyed the pleasuie of Rev. D. 0`Leary’s company, to whom he expressed himself indebted forkindness shown him in pointing out the interesting features of the eternal city. The Rev. Father Banon attended the ceremony of the canonization of St. Jean Baptiste de ia Salle in company with the Rev`ds Fathers Arsenault and McDonald of P. E. I. To your correspondent the Rev. gentleman spoke highly of | the Paris ex- position which he claims is equal to its pretensions and not the fake which many have pronounced it. He was particularly interested and highly pleased with the scenery of the Emerald Isle to which he naturally devoted the greater part of his lei ture.-Moncton Times. _Z__..i_g___.‘,_.1- To cure a headache in ten minutes use Kumfort Headache Powders 10 cents.
