MONDAY, MAY 15, 1899. EDITORIAL NOTES. Mr. Wise's wisdom is of the sort that leads him alonga very erratic political course. It was thought he had been conciliated by being given a mission to England, for which, in fact, he was not very well adapted, but his opposition vote the other night shows that lie is still wavering-per haps in the hope of being further con- ciliated. Contrary to the expectations of a few months ago it is now stated that Mr. Bryan will be again nominated as the Democratic candidate for the Presidency in the year 1900, in spite of all protests. The silver platform, will, it is said, also be substantially re-aidrmed. At this distance it would seem if the Democrats take this course the successor of President Mc~ Kinley will be either himself or an~ other Republican. _It is announced that Mr. Bryan is renominated, Boss Croker and Tammany will support him, but without hope of seeing him elected. We agree with the Examiner that it is regrettable that Dr. James Mc- Leod was not nominated as a candid- ate for the vacant position on the Board of Water and Sewerage Com- missioners. We believe his services in that posiion would have been of great value to he city and his election would have been a fitting recognition of the great services he has rendered toward having the sewerage improve- cannot be now remedied and the citi- ens will need to make the best choice them.
