Base metals and golda perked up in late action to show good advances. _ Western oils showed opening strength, sngged slightly in mid- session and then perked dread to wards the close. Five o! the oils were at highs on strong gains. Pacific Petroleum rose to a high o! $3.15 but dipped, closing at $3.05. a gain oi 20 cents. Atlantic Oil, Anglo-Canadian, Home‘ Oil and Central Leduc were also strong. Gains doubled losses in a stead- ily firming base metals group that advanced about a point on the ex- changa's index. Consolidated Smelt- ers added 3-4 at. 126 and Quemont and international Nickel were ahead fractions. Pend Oreille, Stoop Rock, Torbrit, East Sullivan and Osisko gained 3 to 10 cents. Eldona led a re-awakened gold list in a firm late advance. The stock trade-d more than 120133100 shares, touching 98 cents and clos- ing at 93 cents. Kerr Addison, Lake Shore and Took-Hughes gained in the seniors and Nicholson, Aunor, Chesterville and Donalda were bright in the junior list. Al: Montreal MONTREAL. All chang- es were tractionsl, however, ss no issue moved as much ss a point either way. Trading was extremely dull and only three issues had turnovers exceeding 1.000 shares trading was light. Industrial sales wars approxi- mately 29.200 shares, s decrease o! 27.300 shares from yesterday. Mines totalled 188,700 shares, a decrease ot 19,700 shares from the previous day. Closing averages had banks up .01 at 27.64; utilities unchanged at 74.1; industrials up .7 at 130.3; papers of! .61 at 338.03 and golds up .11 at 58.65. tho two local markets today o! which 61 were higher, 44 lower and 70 remained unchanged. Six new highs were established. Papers showed Fraser ott 3-4 at 58 as both Abitibi and Inter- national added 1-4.
