Women's Hands. Feel larger? NEW YORK, April l9 - (OP)- Women's hands and feet are get- ting larger. That is the consensus of man- ufacturers of men's gloves and shoes. And the war is to blame. they say, for increases cf on; size in handwear and one or two sizes in footwear. Ono manufacturer of gloves re- ports that-while some 25 per cent of "event-ten wore gloves in sizes 6 to 6% in the '30s, less than 10 per cent weer those sizes now. "Generally there has been a 20- per-tccnt drop in the demand for smaller sizes and s corresponding increase in the den-land for size 7 and up." lie said. However. he said, ego is still at work and many manufacturers are cutting their gloves a little larg- er while still labeling them with the old sizes. Thus s size 7 may he selling as a 6% - and flatter- lng women into buying that per- ticulsr brand. In the case of shoes. the man- ager of s. chain shoe store said that the average 5 to 5% shoe size had been replaced by an av- ersge of 6 to 6%. Another retail outlet reported that before 1900, 80 per cent of shoes sold ranged from sizes 4 to 7. Today the range is from} to 9. Shoe manufacturers have chang- ed their scale of "foot normality," one factory executive said. Today 6% is considered normal and av- erage for a well-proportioned girl.
