The Anglican church throughout
Great Britain, and in less measure
in its membership beyond the seas
has been much agitated for years
over the growth of ritualism and the
alleged tendency toward Romanising.
Recently ii vigorous anti-ritualistic
crusade has been in progress and
many within the Anglican. commun-
ion have viaitid with' much coiicern
for the utterance of the Archbishop
of Canterbury on some of the quest-
ioiis raised. lil a series of charges
to the clergy delivered last week, as a
cable despatch tells,the Primate spoke
out with no uncertain sound and in
terms that have deeply aggrieved the
Low Church party. We quote:--
,The Primate declared plainly that the
doctrine of the Real Presence 'as em-
bodied practicallyin the doctrine of con-
sulistsntiation. is permitted, though not
exprfssly taught, by the (hutch of
England; that. although compulsory
,confession is absolutely illegal, vrilun-
tary confession is legal, and no clergy-
man is jusliiied in refusing to hear. lie
commended priyers for the d ad, but
f r ade iiivi cation of the saints or the
virgin. He declared that the elevation
and r seriarion of the sacrament and

by the use of

Chui ch of England his sanction for
all the doctrines and practices which
Low Churchmen, ha ve condemned,
and the cable tells that“High Church-
men are elated.” The utterance is of
the highest consequence in England
where the church is established by
law. While it most intimately con-
cerns the members of the Anglican
church in the first place, it is by no
means a matter of indillerenee to the
large membership of the numerous
-Nonconformist 'bodies, who will view
with alarm, almost, if not quite equal
, ill
into their Low Church brethren what
)
they will be disposed to regard as a
move toward undoing the work of the
Reformation and Romanising the
State church.
As the Times has foresliadowed, the
deliverance of the Primate, which has
caused elation among the High
churchmen in England, is likely to
land new strength to the movement
‘in favor of disestablishment. It is
not likely that the CLurch of Eng~
land, if once entered fully and auth-
oritatively upon thecoursc mapped out
by the Archbishop of Canterbury,
can long remain the established state
church.

In the current number of the Am-
erican Journal of health is an article
by A. 15. Gray , M. D. dn the milk
supply of Toronto, in which the Ken-
sington Dairy of that city is very
highly commended as offering “the
highest grade of milk obtainable in
the city of Toronto. From the cow
to the table milk furnished by the
Kensington Dairy is exposed to no
influence tending to lessen its natural
,purity and strength. The live stock
‘from which it is obtained are exam-
‘ined every month by a. veterinary
surgeon and are in every way cared
lfor with scrupulous attention. The
,bottles in which it is distributed are
thoroughly sterilized in a steam
closet daily, thus rendering them
free from bacteria and all disease
germs.” The dairy to which this
,-high and exclusive endorsement is
,given is owned and run by Mr W. J.
'Palmer,°on of Charles Palnier,Esq. of
Charlottetown.
