They know it now with a vengeance. The most ob- | noxious feature of it is that it falls directly {and most heavily on property outside of | Charlottetown and Summerside. The | premium rates on villages ure from one to | five per cent., while city rates are about }one per cent. and A country store | carrying $10,000 insurance pays annually le premium, on the average, of about $400, |while a like rixk in the city is { only $100! Now, the addition caused by | the Peters tax will be on the country store | $20, and on the city store $5. Besides, } you will observe the country «tore pays a | direct Provincial property tax, whilst the | city atore goes scot free. Why this dis- } crimination ? Does Peters wish to kill out the country stores? It seems like it. The country can now see plainly the advan- | t less. tage to Charlottetown and Summerside of taki ng their lawyers to represent country | districts. They mis-reprerent the country | and work fer the towns. In conclusion, I ask, where is the justice of taxing a man | because he is compelled to carry fire insurg fance 2? Everyene knows that fire insur- ance is aterrible burden, but the Peters idea of relief is to ald to it.
