At the conclusion of the service interment took place at St. Joseph's cemetery, where Mr. McDonald's remains were laid to rest beside his deceased wife and son. Pallbearers were William Elliott, Patrick Roche, Charles E. Slavin, John Griffin. Joseph Dewar and Joseph Boland. James McDonald had a reputa- tion for being one of the most ex- pert miners ever to set foot in Leadville. During his thirty-five years of residence here he had worked in every mining property in the district and had been employed also at Climax and in the Alma district. His last employment, prior to his death. was at the Mt. Champion mine in Half Moon gulch. now being operatfdby John Cortellinl. - - Mr. McDonald was born at Rose Valley. Prince Edward Island, Canada. March l2, 1881. His parents were Murdock and Janet McDonald. In March. 1900. he came to Leadvllle to loin his brothers. Daniel J. and Hector, both of whom had come here a. short time previous. 1n August. 1003. he was married to Margaret Golden and the couple were the parents of three sons. one of whom, Russell, died in infancy. His wife died in 1910 and since that time his slster-in-law, Kate Golden. has made a home for him and helped him reas- his two surviving sons, Elmer and Robert. During the term of office of Mayo:- Rose. when his brother. Daniel, was Alderman, James Mc- Donald held the office of City Marshall from 1907 to 1909. He had been a member of Silver Camp No. l2, Woodmen of the World. and the local Yoeman lodge for a number of years. Surviving him in addition to his sons. Elmer and Robert. are 8 granddaughter.
