Spam 5 The Charlottetown Guardian, Friday, May 24, 1957 Ch'iown Baseball League Was Planned Last Evening Last evening at the Health Centre. officials of the Abegweit Amateur Athletic Association and baseball players of the city held a very enthusiastic preliminary meeting prior to getting the local baseball season under way. In at- tendance at last evening's meet- ing were Abegwcit President Art Burns. Malor Dannie MacCorm- ack. George Francis and Charlie Ryan membe . of the Baseball Committee and a large crowd oi bail tossers among whom was s goodly number of last years Mari- time Intermediate Champs. After a general discussion of all phases ol the game it was decided to again operate a league under the sponsorship of the Abegwait A.A.A. with three local teams as last year namely Dodgers, Flyers and Stars. Last years' coaches are again all set to get underway and fans as well as players will be more than pleased to see Tom MscFarlane, Fiddler MacDonald and For-hie Kennedy putting their name squads as last year through their paces. In addition to last year's lineups each coach is as- sured plenty of reinforcements from the "young fry" who are moving up this year so it looks like a closely fought League again this season. Prior to last evenings' meeting word was received from Clarence Gilli: of Sumrnerslda that s Sum- iii entering competition in the Abcgweit loop this year. The sug- gestion was considcred by the meeting and it was decided to have Baseball Chairman Dan Mac- Cormick contact the Summer- sido management and see what -uangements could be worked out to get the Summerside boys into the loop. . As all players and the few in- terested City fans will recall, last year was a "Red Letter" one for Baseball in this City. Our inter- mediate Abbicii played it out the hard way and took the Maritime Championship home alter defeat- ing the N.S.-N-B. Champs. Mem- ramcook Rovers on their home field. Considering this, officials and players alike are determined to make this an even better year by having more League games every possible mainland team to land more colour and interest to the lesson. PRACTICE TONIGHT First practice of the season will be held this evening at 6.00 p.m. at Memorial Field when all coach- es will be on hand and a workout will be held for all players inter- ested in paying this year.
