Before this work was begun, it was thought that the. deck might be attached to the old piles. but. these were found to he in extremely poor condition. and it was decided to lay new cresoied piles through- out the wharf area. It would be almost, true to say that the wharf was iioating since it had almost iin firm attiichnicnt to its loca- tlon. Almost, all the new piles are al- ready in position. nnd it is ex- pected that. wtiliin another week or two the. work of laying the stringers on which the deck will lay, will be commenced. This work tends to proceed more rau- idly than that of setting piles. and it is expected that this uharf will be completed for the fall shipping season. The land at this point having a consider- able grade, the preliminary work will be to level the area as well as possible before collar excava- tion is undertaken.
